    The Laboratory Technologies Manager oversees and manages all aspects of laboratory operations and technologies within UL Research Institutes (ULRI). The Laboratory Technologies Manager ensures the efficient and effective functioning of laboratory equipment, processes, and staff to support the organization's research and development initiatives. The Laboratory Technologies Manager ensures the accuracy, quality, and compliance of laboratory operations while fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.

    What you’ll learn & achieve:

    As the Laboratory Technologies Manager you will play a key role in the rapid growth of UL as you:

    • Provide strong leadership to the laboratory technologies team, including hiring, training, mentoring, and performance management and foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment, promoting teamwork, open communication, and knowledge sharing. Set performance goals and objectives for the team and conduct regular performance evaluations.
    • Develop and implement laboratory processes, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and policies to ensure efficient and compliant laboratory operations.
    • Monitor and optimize laboratory workflow, resource allocation, and scheduling to meet project deadlines and deliver high-quality results.
    • Oversee inventory management, including procurement, tracking, and maintenance of laboratory supplies, reagents, and equipment.
    • Assess, select, implement, and maintain laboratory technologies, instruments, and equipment to support research and development activities. Collaborate with vendors and technical specialists to ensure proper installation, calibration, and validation of laboratory equipment.
    • Stay up to date with emerging laboratory technologies and recommend strategic investments to enhance laboratory capabilities.
    • Ensure adherence to quality control and quality assurance standards in laboratory operations, including compliance with relevant regulatory guidelines and accreditation requirements and develop and implement quality management systems and processes to identify and address any non-compliance or deviations.
    • Conduct audits and inspections to assess and improve laboratory processes, documentation, and data integrity.
    • Promote a culture of safety by enforcing adherence to laboratory safety protocols, procedures, and regulations, and identify and assess potential risks and hazards in laboratory operations and implement appropriate mitigation measures.
    • Ensure compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations related to laboratory activities.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including scientists, researchers, project managers, and regulatory affairs personnel to support their laboratory requirements.
    • Communicate effectively with internal stakeholders to provide updates, address concerns, and seek feedback on laboratory operations and initiatives.
    • Foster external collaborations with academic institutions, research organizations, and industry partners to leverage expertise and stay current with industry trends.
    • Contribute to and/or lead other department specific and cross-functional initiatives.

     Experience and Education Requirements

    • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in a relevant scientific discipline (e.g., Biology, Chemistry, Biotechnology) is required. Ph.D. is preferred.
    • Minimum 8 years of experience in laboratory management, including experience with laboratory technologies, equipment, and processes.
