Job Summary: The Gas Chromatography (GC) Technologies Research & Development (R&D) Manager is responsible for driving new product development (NPD) and raw material synthesis with a team of scientists. The position will report to the R&D Director. This individual will work closely with other departments (i.e., Product Management, Marketing, Manufacturing) to execute on strategies that grow the Restek GC column and accessories business.
Job Duties:
Product:

Develop and support the launch of new GC column products and accessories.

Evaluate and develop strong intellectual property (i.e., patents, trade secrets).

Drive idea generation and focused research as part of new product development. Facilitate interaction with other departments to align and execute.

Provide guidance and support for staff and colleagues through the NPD process.

Contribute to material generation for new or existing products including technical articles, instruction sheets, methods, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).

Respond to inquiries in area of expertise in the form of technical, manufacturing, and customer support.

Provide manufacturing support for the GC column product line including the transfer of processes, procedures, and analytical QC.

Serve as a member on relevant NPD teams, representing R&D in support of new product development and driving teamwork between departments.

Oversee polymer and raw material synthesis in support of manufacturing.

Evaluate and approve GC column specifications and proposed process changes.

Develop yearly budget requests (staffing, expenses, and capital).

Serve on the R&D Management Team and exemplify Restek’s expectations of leaders.

Participate in departmental and team meetings and trainings.

Represent Restek at trade shows, conferences, and seminars, and provide technical service to our customers and distributors.

Foster collaborative opportunities and business relationships that align with priority projects and strategic initiatives.

Up to date on latest market trends, technologies, and relevant competitors.
Qualifications:
Education/Experience:
-
Bachelor’s degree in science, engineering, chemistry or other related field or equivalent job experience. Master’s or PhD in Chemistry preferred.

Minimum 8-10 years laboratory or related experience. Prior experience leading teams or directing the work of others.

Experienced in new product development with successful record, preferably in gas chromatography.
