JOB DESCRIPTION:
As an Infection Control Preventionist, you will play a crucial role in safeguarding the health and safety of our residents, staff, and visitors. The primary purpose of this job is to plan, organize, develop, coordinate, and direct our infection prevention and control program and its activities in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations that govern such programs, and may be directed by the Administrator and the Infection Prevention and Control Committee to ensure that an effective infection prevention and control program is maintained at all times. Your responsibilities will include:
· Plan, develop, organize, implement, evaluate, coordinate, and direct the Infection Prevention and Control Program in accordance with current rules, regulations, and guidelines that govern such requirements in the long-term care facility.
· Ensure that the facility is in compliance with CDC, OSHA, and local regulations concerning infection prevention and control, universal precautions and transmission-based precautions.
· Assess learning needs and develop Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) training for the facility residents and healthcare personnel.
· Ensure all healthcare personnel follow the established Universal Precautions, Transmission-based Precautions, and aseptic techniques where required.
· Monitor medication passes and treatments to ensure that appropriate Hand Hygiene is being followed in the handling and administering of medications and treatments.
· Participates and incorporates the Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) process and outcome measures into the Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement program.
· Monitor and review the implementation of Antibiotic Stewardship Program (ASP) in the facility by tracking surveillance data, identify and analyze trends and implement Infection Prevention and Control strategies.
· Prepare monthly summaries of all resident and personnel infections, corrective actions taken and the results of the correction actions. Submit reports to the Director or Nursing Services and Medical Director for review at the QAA/QAPI committee meetings.
· Prepare summaries of special investigations on the occurrence of Healthcare Associated Infections (HAI) and Community Acquired Infections (CAI).
· Ensure compliance with COVID-19 Mitigation Plan which includes testing and cohorting, PPE, designation of space of confirmed positive COVID-19 residents and those on quarantine, HCP exclusions and return to work criteria.
· Keep records of all testing performed on residents and HCP, including the test results and cohorting of confirmed positive cases, work exclusions and return to work of HCP.
· Ensure compliance with regulatory and mandatory reporting requirements of COVID-19 cases and deaths at the local, state, and federal levels.
· Assist with immunization and screening programs as needed.
· Provide information relative to any Emerging Infectious Pathogen outbreak in the facility and how the outbreak was managed.
· Identify and manage outbreaks following the guidelines from CDC, OSHA and the state.
EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS, AND CREDENTIALS
· Must be a graduate of an accredited college or university.
· Must possess a current, unencumbered, active license to practice as a Licensed Vocational Nurse or Registered Nurse in this state.
· Must possess a current Basic Life Support (BLS) certificate.
· Initial IP (Infection Preventionist) training is required within 90 calendar days of hire.
· Must complete 10 hours of continuing education in the field of IPC on an annual basis.
· CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) Certification on Infection Control and Prevention and Antibiotic Stewardship is preferred.
· Must be knowledgeable of nursing and medical practices and procedures, as well as laws, regulations, and guidelines that pertain to long-term care, IPCP, HAI, Surveillance, Antibiotic Stewardship and Outbreak Management.
PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS
Physical and sensory requirement of this position, with or without the aid of mechanical devices include: walking, reaching, bending, lifting, grasping, fine-hand coordination, pushing and pulling, ability to communicate with residents, ability to distinguish smells and temperatures, ability to read and write, and the ability to remain calm under emergency situations while dealing with multiple tasks.
