JOB SUMMARY The Associate Architect is responsible for coordinating all phases of building projects and facilities modifications- from the establishment of design concepts through design implementation, and coordinates specialized and critical components of projects. The incumbent acts independently, receiving guidance at each key phase of the project, and demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. This role involves managing the design and construction of capital projects- including renovations, expansions, new facilities, and infrastructure- as well as landscape projects. The Associate Architect collects, develops, and analyzes technical data to determine project requirements and prepares information regarding specifications, materials, equipment, estimated costs, and completion times.

JOB DUTIES 30% - Project Management Delivers multiple complex capital construction projects on schedule and within project budget. Manages projects from the programming phase through design, construction, occupancy, and warranty period. Coordinates all project activities with all campus stakeholders. Acts as official University representative in relationships with contractors, design professionals, reviewing agencies, the campus community, and the general public.
Bids or negotiates construction contracts. Reviews and manages construction activities, including contractor's schedule, RFIs, submittals, change order requests, and punch lists. Acts as liaison among project participants, resolving problems or conflicts.
Meets with clients to help define project scope and program. Manages the project program.
Hires architectural and engineering firms to develop project requirement definitions, design criteria, and prepare layouts and detail drawing. Manages the services of the architects and engineers.
Creates project in project management software application. Completes systematic reporting and updating of project status as required by Capital Projects Management, including budget and schedule.
Performs organizational, departmental, and administrative activities not directly relating to projects, including serving on committees representing department or unit.
