Job Summary
The Sterile Processing Technician Trainee is responsible for cleaning, disinfecting, and sterilizing medical supplies via the use of steam, gas, or chemicals under the supervision of a Sterile Processing Tech. The processing technician trainee prepares treatment and procedure trays, wraps medical devices, and prepares surgical case carts under the supervision of a Sterile Processing Technician. The Sterile Processing Technician trainee maintains the sterile supply storage area and is responsible for receiving and distributing departmental supplies.
Job Requirements
a. Minimum Education Requirement : High school diploma or equivalent (GED). Must complete Self Study IAHCSMM or Purdue University Distance Learning Central Service /Sterile Processing program and obtain certification within one year of hire.
b. Minimum Experience Requirement : Experience in a sterile processing area or operating room preferred. Demonstrated ability to utilize aseptic and sterile techniques normally acquired through previous work experience or formal course work/training.
Physical Requirements and Environmental Conditions
Heavy Work: Frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 50 lbs with a maximum lifting of 100 lbs.
