Civil Engineering Supervisor supervises a team of civil engineers who design and develop construction projects such as airports, bridges, channels, dams, railroads, and roads. Ensures maintenance of equipment and adherence to safety prevention measures. Being a Civil Engineering Supervisor monitors personnel needs and schedules staff accordingly. Also responsible for preparing proposals, establishing completion dates and cost estimates, and evaluation results. Additionally, Civil Engineering Supervisor requires a bachelor's degree in engineering. Typically requires the Certified Professional Engineer (PE) credential. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. Working team member that may validate or coordinate the work of others on a support team. Suggests improvements to process, is a knowledge resource for other team members. Has no authority for staff actions. Generally has a minimum of 2 years experience as an individual contributor. Job Description
- Effectively lead and manage activities and people on transportation civil engineering projects as well as manage project budgets.
- Assure that designs are in accordance with federal, city and DOT specifications.
- Prepare or oversee detailed engineering analyses, schedules, technical reports, etc.
- Create and foster a project team culture of superior service for the customer.
- Interact with clients, regulatory agencies, and the public as necessary for project completion. In addition, work on business development activities.
Qualifications
- Bachelors of Science in Civil Engineering
- Professional Engineer license in the applicable state you work or the ability to obtain license within 6 months.
- 8 years of experience in the design and construction of state DOT and county highway projects preferred.
- Excellent leadership and project management skills.
- Working knowledge of project team roles and responsibilities.
- Working knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local codes.
- Ability to communicate effectively and appropriately with groups both internally and externally.
