Childbirth Educator provides instruction and education to patients planning to give birth. Presents curriculum in a group setting. Being a Childbirth Educator reviews class material and recommends changes based on educational standards. May assist in developing new content. Additionally, Childbirth Educator may require a bachelor's degree in a related area. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The Childbirth Educator occasionally directed in several aspects of the work. Gaining exposure to some of the complex tasks within the job function. The Childbirth Educator is a non-clinical professional and cannot offer medical advice, diagnose medical conditions, or perform clinical procedures/treatments of any kind, does not prescribe or administer any medication including over-the-counter medication, and cannot advise families to act against medical advice.
Will provide culturally sensitive and age-appropriate education:
Must be bilingual in English/Spanish with written and verbal fluency and master comprehension of the Spanish language. Experienced working with Central and South American families, African American, African Diaspora and Caribbean families required.
Education:
Preferred Candidates will hold a Certified Childbirth Educator (CCCE) – CAPPA, DONA, ICCE, LAMAZE or any other designation, Registered Nurse or LNP license in New Jersey and experience as a Community Based Doula preferred.
Experience:
At least 3-5 years of experience working with pregnant and parenting individuals required. Excellent communication and organizational skills. Proficient in presentation skills, knowledge of adult learning techniques, and good group dynamics. Experience working in hospitals, maternity programs, birth center facilities a plus.
