Being a Childbirth Educator reviews class material and recommends changes based on educational standards. May assist in developing new content. Additionally, Childbirth Educator may require a bachelor's degree in a related area. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The Childbirth Educator occasionally directed in several aspects of the work. Gaining exposure to some of the complex tasks within the job function. General Statement of Duties
Schedules childbirth and newborn parenting classes for the Guilford County Health Department.
Distinguishing Features of the Class
This position receives childbirth/parenting class registration cards from Maternity Care Coordinators and from Health Department Spanish interpreters to send notices to clients and create rosters for the other Childbirth Educators. Work consists of scheduling childbirth and newborn parenting classes, supervising the staff that teaches the classes, and provides administrative support for the classes. This position also facilitates, teaches, and/or coordinates maternity classes as needed.

Physical Demands:
An employee in this position must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions. The employee must be able to perform light work exerting up to 10 pounds of force routinely and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force occasionally to lift objects.
Working Conditions:
The worker is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.
Driving is Essential:
Driving is an essential requirement of this position whether driving a County owned or personal vehicle to conduct county business. Motor Vehicle Reports may be verified for valid driver's license and that the driving record is compatible with the county's driving criteria.
If a personal vehicle is operated for county business proper insurance is maintained as per Guilford County's vehicle use policy.
