Being a Childbirth Educator reviews class material and recommends changes based on educational standards. May assist in developing new content. The Childbirth Educator occasionally directed in several aspects of the work. Gaining exposure to some of the complex tasks within the job function.   • Primary Function:

    Under the supervision of the Parent and Family Education Coordinator, the Childbirth Educator develops, implements and evaluates the patient education programs for the Women’s and Children’s Service population


    Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Meets all standards of the Patient Satisfaction Initiative Criteria in order to make Jefferson Abington Hospital the hospital of choice for Patients and Employees
    • Conducts group educational sessions for expectant women, their support person and families to meet their learning needs related to labor, delivery, recovery and post-partum, including newborn care and feeding
    • Interacts with expectant women, their support person and families to ensure individual learning needs are met
    • Prepares and provides educational materials throughout childbirth and parenting education class sessions to facilitate learning
    • Develops and maintains effective working relationships with all health care team members to facilitate an efficient and effective childbirth and parenting education program
    • Functions as a member of the healthcare team to meet or exceed customer expectations
    • Performs other related duties and requests as assigned

    Experience:

    • Minimum of 2 years’ experience Mother/Baby or Obstetric nursing preferred
    • Demonstrated expertise in clinical nursing practice
    • Demonstrated experience in planning, implementing and evaluating teaching/leaning experiences


    Education and Training:

    • Graduate of approved nursing program. Continuing Education in area of expertise


    License Certification and Registration:

    • Current licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania required
    • BLS Certifcation through American Heart Assoc required
    • Certification as a Childbirth Educator preferred


    Other Requirements:

    Demonstrates ability to communicate approximately and effectively

    Since this position will require the selected candidate to engage in regular contact with children in the form of care, guidance, supervision or training, you will be required to meet the requirements of the Child Protective Services Act, including the Pennsylvania State Police criminal background check, the Pennsylvania Department of Welfare child abuse criminal background clearance, and an FBI finger print based federal criminal records check. The selected candidate will not be allowed to commence working until all three (3) are completed satisfactorily.

    Covid Vaccination is a requirement for employment at Jefferson for employees working at Jefferson’s clinical entities or at the University.
