PRIMARY PURPOSE:
The Special Education Child Find and Compliance Specialist ensures compliance with state and federal guidelines about special education by coordinating and monitoring evaluation timelines, case conference committee meetings, implementation of IEPs, and supplementary/related services. This person is responsible for all Child Find duties as outlined in Legal Framework, including parent meetings and outreach. Under the supervision of the Senior Director for Special Education, is responsible for coordinating and investigating TEA Complaints, Resolution and Mediation meetings and requests for Due Process. Maintains compliance for all Child Find Duties and Reporting Responsibilities.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:

Minimum Bachelor’s degree in related field: Master’s degree preferred

Valid Texas teacher’s or comparable certificate in special education/ evaluation background preferred
Special Knowledge/Skills:

Ability to work with school staff and parents

Knowledge of state and federal special education laws

Excellent written, communication, and consultation skills

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

Provides Child Find obligations per the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).

Coordinates resources, personnel, communications, and case management activities to ensure proper location, identification, assessment, and placement of children in need of special education services

Assists parents and others within the community by facilitating and coordinating the process of identifying suspected children and insuring that these children receive evaluations to determine if they are eligible for services under

Provides services that help to promote general public awareness of programs and services available for young children who have or are at risk of developing

Facilitates the District’s special education Child Count;
6. Compile, maintain and monitor all district, state and federal reports and records. Represents the District in responding to TEA Complaints, Resolution, Mediation and Due Process Hearings.

Plans, trains, implements and monitors a comprehensive system for auditing special education records to ensure compliance with state and federal laws and

Assist with troubleshooting and investigating complaints from parents and staff and developing and implementing corrective action plans

Consults with the Senior Director of Special Education and the District’s legal

Provide training to District administrators and other staff regarding compliance

Manage the special education accountability with a focus on student's individual needs as defined by each student's IEP
