Chief Nuclear Medicine Technologist provides administrative oversight for the nuclear medical technology department of a hospital. Reviews, develops and implements technical policies and procedures to ensure efficiency, quality and compliance with all regulatory requirements. Being a Chief Nuclear Medicine Technologist supervises nuclear medicine technologists, and may perform the functions of a technologist as needed. Ensures proper usage, maintenance and updates of medical equipment. Additionally, Chief Nuclear Medicine Technologist requires a bachelor's degree. Requires American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) Certification. Typically requires Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) Certification. Typically reports to a director. The Chief Nuclear Medicine Technologist manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Chief Nuclear Medicine Technologist typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1-3 years supervisory experience may be required.     Mountain View Hospital is looking for a Nuclear Medicine Technologist to join our team!

     

    JOB SUMMARY:  

    The nuclear medicine tech provides information about both structure and function with every major organ within the body by the injection of radioactive materials. Under supervision of physician(s), he/she performs prescribed radiologic procedures requiring specialized knowledge and skills in support of the provision of diagnostic and/or therapeutic services to a specified patient population. Prepares and administers various radiopharmaceuticals as appropriate to the nature of the procedures being carried out. Understands regulatory standards relating to the NRC and other compliance standards.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

     

    1. Performs full range of nuclear medicine dynamic, static, SPECT and imaging procedures. Studies to include cardiac imaging, bone scans, lung scans, cardiac blood pool, HIDA scans, Renal Scans, and other diagnostic scans utilizing gamma cameras, and/or stationary camera devices.

    2. Understand patient imaging procedures preparations and acquisitions using radiation detecting instrumentation.

    3. Maintain hot lab compliance, regulation, instrumentation, and security of radiopharmaceuticals.

    4. Explain test procedures and safety precautions to patients and provide them with assistance during procedures.

    5. Maintains compliance with radiation safety policies/procedure and documentation requirements for receipt, disposal, and administration of radiopharmaceuticals. Records maintained in nuclear medicine tracking system.

    6. Provide post images data analysis and reconstruction for physician interpretation.

    7. Identifies and ensures quality control measures for imaging and surveying equipment, dose calibrators and radiation safety monitors recording results.

    8. Maintains flexibility as department grows, with a willingness to accept additional responsibilities requested by department manager.

    9. Demonstrates age-specific competency for the following groups: neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric.

    10. Participate in after hour call coverage for emergency patient procedures from the hospital.

    11. Maintains patient confidentiality at all times.

    12. Completes all annual mandatory education requirements (including hospital, department, and job specific competencies).

    13. Troubleshoots technical problems and works with the vendors to resolve problems that arise.

    14. Attends the required number of staff meetings per department standard.

    15. Has documented proof of current professional licensure and/or all required certifications.

    16. Adheres to Patient Rights Policy and patient confidentiality standards.

    17. Adapts to change in a positive and professional manner.

    18. Accepts responsibility for his/her mistakes without placing blame.

    19. Promotes effective working relationships and works effectively as a part of the department/team to facilitate the hospital and department’s ability to meet its goals and objectives.

    Qualifications


     

    Education/Certification:  High school diploma or equivalent. Must be 18 years of age or older. Graduate of accredited Nuclear Medicine program and registered with the American Registry of Radiological Technology (ARRT) or the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB). Current BLS certification are required. 

    Experience: 12 months of accumulated experience within the last 3 years in a comparable job classification required. 

    Equipment/Technology: Basic computer knowledge.  

    Language/Communication:  Must have the ability to effectively read, write, and speak English.

    Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers.

    Mental Capabilities:  Ability to problem solve and handle stressful situations.

    Interpersonal:  Ability to work well with others.
