Chief Medical Technologist oversees and administers a variety of chemical, bacteriologic, and microscopic tests. Devises work schedules and allocates duties to laboratory staff. Being a Chief Medical Technologist verifies accuracy and validity of test results. Instructs trainees in procedures and techniques of performing tests. Additionally, Chief Medical Technologist requires a bachelor's degree. Requires professional certification. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The Chief Medical Technologist manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Chief Medical Technologist typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required. Status: 80 hours per two week pay period
Shift: 8 hours shifts during the week; 12 hours shifts on the weekends. Rotating shifts with rotating weekends and holidays

Job Summary
Performs a variety of general and specific laboratory duties in each laboratory section including but not limited to Phlebotomy, Urinalysis, Hematology, Chemistry, Special Chemistry, Blood Bank, Serology, and Microbiology. Reviews and monitors the performance of quality control, preventive maintenance and laboratory reports in area assigned. Accountable for determining if obtained results are valid in comparison to established quality control guidelines.
