Chief Medical Technologist oversees and administers a variety of chemical, bacteriologic, and microscopic tests. Devises work schedules and allocates duties to laboratory staff. Being a Chief Medical Technologist verifies accuracy and validity of test results. Instructs trainees in procedures and techniques of performing tests. Additionally, Chief Medical Technologist requires a bachelor's degree. Requires professional certification. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The Chief Medical Technologist manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Chief Medical Technologist typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required. MEDICAL LAB TECHNOLOGIST

  • Position Summary:
    The Medical Lab Technologists (MLT) will perform related duties in laboratory to include storing and labeling specimens and using manual and automatic equipment to prepare specimens and perform analytical tests. The MLT will prepare solutions, reagents and stains, following standard laboratory formulas and procedures. The MLT will calibrate and perform routine maintenance on testing equipment as well as process samples and create reports and will often communicate lab updates with nursing and physician staff. The MLT will be required to follow producers required by CAP for certification. The MLT must be willing to report back to work during any emergency situation, this includes if needed during inclement weather, mass casualty, internal disaster, etc. The MLT will complete other duties as assigned. 
     
    Education:
    • High School Diploma required
    • Medical Lab Technician through one of two ways required:
      • Associates of Science degree in Medical Technology or;
      • Bachelors of Science (BS) degree with Board Certification as an MLT.
    Experience:
    • Experience with patient contact preferred.
    • Previous experience with Laboratory/Hospital computer system preferred.
    • Previous experience as a MLT in a hospital laboratory preferred.
    Other:
    • Flexibility with scheduled work hours required.
    Licensure/Certification/Registration:
    •  ASCP certification preferred.
    Special Skills:
    • Exemplary core customer service skills strongly required.
    • Knowledge of program development and administration preferred.
    • Strong organizational skills.
    • Strong PC skills required.
    • Strong verbal communication skills required.
    Working Conditions:
    • Occasional exposure to irrational patients.
    • Potential exposure to blood borne and airborne pathogens.
    • Stress level high due to multiple demands frequently occurring simultaneously.
    • Physical surroundings pleasant and comfortable.
    • Prolonged standing and walking.                                                                                                                     
    Physical Requirements:
    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently (activity or condition exists from 2/3 to 3/4 of the time) required to stand, sit, and walk; occasionally (activity or condition exists up to 1/3 of the time) to use hands, fingers; and frequently to talk or hear. The employee must exert 20 to 35 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 15 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.  Ability to hear to process instructions and safety code and alarms required.  The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job and will be assessed by post offer Employee Health fit-for-duty review.
