    • Developing, implementing, evaluating, and improving processes and procedures to monitor the effectiveness, efficiency, and productivity of investigation, analyzing and response to cyber incidents within the network environment or enclave.
    • Perform real-time cyber defense incident handling (e.g., forensic collections, intrusion correlation and tracking, threat analysis, and direct system remediation) tasks to support deployable Incident Response Teams (IRTs).
    • Track and document cyber defense incidents from initial detection through final resolution.
    • Analyzes digital evidence and investigate computer security incidents to derive useful information in support of system/network vulnerability mitigation.
    • Provides timely detection, identification, and alerting of possible attacks/intrusions, anomalous activities, and misuse activities and distinguish these incidents and events from benign activities.
    • Serves as technical expert and liaison to law enforcement personnel and explain incident details as required.
    • Uses data collected from a variety of cyber defense tools (e.g., IDS alerts, firewalls, network traffic logs) to analyze events that occur within their environments for the purposes of mitigating threats.
    • Performs tier 1, 2, and 3 malware analysis.
    • Maintain deployable cyber defense toolkit (e.g., specialized cyber defense software/hardware) to support Incident Response Team mission.

    At the GS-14: Qualifying experience for GS-14 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-13 which is directly related to the work of this position which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience (1) Leading, developing, implementing, evaluating, or improving processes and procedures to monitor the effectiveness of analytics on cyber incidents within a network environment or enclave; (2) Performing real-time cyber defense incident handling (e.g., forensic collections, intrusion correlation and tracking, threat analysis, and direct system remediation) tasks to support deployable Incident Response Teams (IRTs); and (3) Tracking and documenting cyber defense incidents from initial detection through final resolution, while also analyzing digital evidence and conducting investigation of computer security incidents to derive useful information in support of system/network vulnerability mitigation.

    Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
