Chief Medical Librarian (MLS) manages daily planning, operations, and staff of a medical library to meet the information needs of users. Oversees professional and support staff involved in cataloging, indexing, issuing books/materials, and keeping records of items on loan. Being a Chief Medical Librarian (MLS) selects books and publications for purchase and subscribes to pertinent periodicals as allowed for by the given budget. Responds to more complex requests from faculty, medical staff, and students. Additionally, Chief Medical Librarian (MLS) possess broad and current knowledge of medical developments and scientific literature. Requires a master's degree in library science. Typically reports to a director. The Chief Medical Librarian (MLS) manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Chief Medical Librarian (MLS) typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required.     This position is eligible for hiring bonus!

    Well qualified candidates with less than 2 years of experience are eligible to receive  a $7,500.00 sign on bonus!  While candidates with more than 2 years of experience are eligible to receive a $15,000 sign on bonus. This bonus will be prorated for Part Time or Per Diem positions. Relocation assistance and temporary housing if needed. Please note this bonus is not available to current MaineHealth employees or prior employees that have been separated for less than 6 months.

    Position Summary

    As a Medical Laboratory Scientist, Medical Technologist or Medical Laboratory Technician you will:

    • Independently perform and monitor laboratory testing of patient specimens according to established  - procedures and regulatory requirements. 
    • Confirm, interpret, correlate and report normal and abnormal patient results.  
    • Recognize technical, instrumental and/or physiological problems and initiate resolutions.  
    • Assume responsibility for accuracy, quality control and required instrument maintenance.  
    • May provide training of laboratory and/or other health care personnel as directed.

    Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

    Education: For Medical Technologist:  Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Laboratory Science/Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory, Chemical, Physical, or Biological Science required.

    License/Certifications: Certification as a Medical Technologist (or equivalent) or as a categorical technologist (e.g., C, H, I, BB, M) by a recognized professional organization (e.g., ASCP, AMT).  Certification is required within 6 months of hire.

    Experience: N/A

    Must be able to work any shift, holiday and/or weekend, and travel among company sites as needed.

    Education:  For Medical Laboratory Technician:  Associates Degree in Medical Laboratory Technician

    License/Certifications:  Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician by a recognized professional organization (e.g, ASCP/AMT). Certification is required within 6 months of hire.

    Experience:  N/A

    Must be able to work any shift, holiday and/or weekend, and travel among company sites as needed.
