    Principle duties and responsibilities

    1. Assesses the overall health care environment and interprets or translates the data into meaningful planning information to be used by the Board of Directors and the Leadership Team in any strategic planning. Organizational direction will be conducted in collaboration with the board, medical staff and the senior leaders recognizing changes within the broader health care landscape and among populations residing in the service area. Strategic execution and operations will be accomplished through allocation of resources, leadership of employees and in coordination and collaboration with the medical staff. Key indicators of success will be identified to measure organizational performance on an on-going basis.
    2. Communicates, clarifies, interprets and operationalizes the mission and values of the hospital with all constituencies including, but not limited to, the Board of Directors, Medical Staff, Leadership staff, employees, patients, visitors and the community in general.
    3. Directs the development and implementation of strategic planning activities including assessment of the environment, drafting of necessary strategies, goal objectives and plans, and the development and implementation of an appropriate organizational structure.
    4. Establishes and implements systems to monitor organizational performance against goals and objectives, including financial and clinical goals; assures performance is continuously improved through the application of sound, current quality improvement philosophies, tools and techniques.
    5. Provides for the implementation of organized management and administrative functions throughout the hospital including the establishment of clear lines of responsibility and accountability within and between departments.
    6. Assures the establishment and implementation of communication systems and methods between and among all organizational departments, the medical community, the governing body and the community in general.
    7. Implements systems and processes that assure compliance with all regulations governing health care delivery and the rules of accrediting and licensing bodies; assures the continuous monitoring of operations and programs and the implementation of changes where necessary to meet or exceed these requirements.
    8. Assures the establishment of systems and processes necessary to safeguard the physical, financial and human resources of the organization; assures operating units have the resources (staffing, space, supplies and equipment) necessary in the provision of quality care; implements sound administrative/management practices and continuous quality assessment and improvement methods and techniques to assure the highest quality of services possible are delivered within reasonable cost parameters.
    9. Assures maintenance of active communications with all external and internal constituencies; continuously assesses the environment to establish linkages with related organizations that are complementary and consistent with the mission and strategic needs of the organization.
    10. Assures the development and implementation of Human Resources systems and processes that assure departments are staffed appropriate to their workloads, that reasonable qualifications/standards are established for each position and that staff are assessed regularly to assure that they are competent to perform their duties.
    11. Assumes role and responsibility of the Chief Financial Officer, Chief Operating Officer, Chief Information Officer, Chief Nursing Officer, Executive Assistant, Executive Director of Human Resources and Physician Liaison, Chief Medical Officer, Executive Directors of Anesthesia, Director of Radiology, Executive Director of Ancillary Services and Clinic Administrator.
    12. Ensure patients and visitors follow current infection control guidelines.
    13. Responsible for ensuring the environment meets appropriate governing body standards.
    14. Duties that could include blood exposure and risk to bloodborne pathogens (eg: lacerations, handling of blood-contaminated items, etc.)
    15. Maintains patient and staff safety through the use of patient safety tools (Teamstepps, Just Culture, etc.).
    16. Regular attendance at the assigned work location is required.
    17. Performs all other duties as assigned.


    Minimum knowledge, skills, and abilities

    1. Knowledge of healthcare systems and hospital operations, individual and group behaviors, budgeting and financial management practices as is typically acquired through the completion of a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration or a similar program; A Master's degree in a Health Care related field is preferred.

    2. Ability to make strategic, operational and administrative decisions in response to emerging conditions and environmental circumstances, knowledge of hospital administrative policies, philosophies and principles, knowledge of customer service philosophies and practices as is typically acquired through five years of progressive management experience in a healthcare leadership role and three years in a senior management healthcare role with broad exposure to all related areas of responsibility.

    3. Basic Life Support certification via American Heart Association required within six months of hire.

    4. Ability to interpret, communicate and operationalize organizational mission and value concepts to a wide range of organizational and community representatives.

    5. Attention to detail up to 75% of the time when preparing materials for the Board of Directors, addressing patient care issues, resolving conflicts, negotiating contracts, recruiting providers, etc.

    6. Analytical skills to analyze and interpret hospital's financial performance, monitor and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, etc.

    7. Ability to stay current on ongoing health care trends, health care legislation and regulatory standards.

    8. Ability to direct, counsel and evaluate employee work and performance.

    9. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of personnel, medical staff, voluntary and ancillary departments.

    10. Ability to balance and prioritize diverse management and administrative responsibilities.

    11. Ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams and work as a team member.

    12. Ability to develop written policies and procedures, memoranda and performance evaluations with measurable behaviors.

    13. Advanced communication skills to present pertinent information and create/maintain effective working relationships with numerous audiences, including Board of Directors, medical staff, management personnel, volunteers, employees, patients, community members, etc. Ability to effectively communicate with individuals from diverse backgrounds. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

    14. Ability to make professional and administrative decisions within the framework of the hospital's mission, policies, legal and regulatory requirements.

    1. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality with regard to protected and sensitive information.
    2. Ability to complete reports and correspondence at a professional level.
    3. Ability to immediately respond to common inquiries and complaints from patients, employees and regulatory agencies.
    4. Successful completion of required knowledge and training of standard precaution protocols and when to apply during principle duties and responsibilities.

    Working conditions

    1. Works in a normal office work environment with little exposure to excessive noise, dust, temperature, etc.
    2. Spends up to 75% of shift sitting whether completing deskwork or in meetings. Required to ambulate up to 500 feet at one time within facility for attending meetings. Required to file paperwork, including lifting cost report files weighing up to 20 pounds to place in storage cabinets and transporting cost report files up to 500 feet within office and facility. Will help set up hospital events, requiring transporting totes of supplies weighing up to 40 pounds distances of up to 100 feet.
