Why Patients Need You As a Chemist/Scientist, you will provide expert support for the Process and Product Technologies (PPT) group and Operations. You will be a member of the PPT team supporting the development, launching, and maintaining of processes for the manufacture of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients for the fulfillment of patient needs.
What You Will AchieveAs a Chemist/ Scientist, a n important part of your work will be to develop new ways to manufacture existing products. Y ou will provide innovative ideas and technical support to develop and implement new processes with an emphasis on safety, the environment and product cost. This work will be performed in concert with multifunctional teams.
A portion of your time will also be spent supporting existing active pharmaceutical manufacturing processes. This role will involve supporting Quality and Operations with investigation of deviations.
You will need to work comfortably and interchangeably on the manufacturing floor, in the laboratory, and/or office environments.
How You Will Achieve It- Apply your chemistry expertise.
- Understand the requirements of other related disciplines (Regulatory, Quality Organization, Project Management, etc.).
- Demonstrate skills in leading, planning, and developing successful chemistry process improvements.
- Act, with guidance, as technical lead for product/process technology transfers.
- Perform impact assessments for process deviations, material evaluations and provide justifications.
- Recommend and implement new/old chemistries to solve process related problems.
- Adapt and respond positively to situations and people to meet changing work unit priorities.
- Support process validation of new products and tech transfer projects. Create and/or review batch records, recipes and BOM(s)
- Author e-notebooks, reports, technical memo(s), process performance qualifications protocols presentations, reports, and technical papers with minimal direction.
QualificationsMust-Have- Applicant must have eight years of relevant experience; OR an Associate's degree with six years of experience; OR a Bachelor's degree with at least three years of experience; OR a Master's degree with more than one year of experience.
- An excellent understanding of organic chemistry.
- A strong aptitude for chemistry process development.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- The ability to interact effectively with people at all levels of the organization including those with diverse educational and cultural backgrounds.
- The flexibility and ability to embrace and lead change.
- The ability to work in a high-paced team environment.
Nice-to-Have- Experience in a cGMP environment including specific knowledge of and experience with API manufacturing processing and equipment.
- Familiarity with new chemistry technologies and the application of these techniques and methods.
- Awareness of where to look to find relevant information.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS- Significant amount of your time will be spent in a laboratory environment with limited time in the plant.
- The job requires standing, walking, and stair climbing.

- Possible exposure to reagents, solvents, and pharmaceutical ingredients.

NON-STANDARD WORK SCHEDULE, TRAVEL OR ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS - The focus of the work is at the Kalamazoo, MI site, however 0-20% travel may be required for network support.

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $78,000.00 to $130,000.00. In addition, this position is eligible for participation in Pfizer's Global Performance Plan with a bonus target of 10.0% of the base salary.
