    Job Summary: This is supervisory work involving the performance and coordination of routine, complex, and specialized laboratory analyses, and the operation of highly technical equipment in an environmental analytical chemistry laboratory.

     

    Job duties include:

    • Sets goals, objective standards, performance evaluations, manages workload, and supervises laboratory analyses performed by lower-level professional positions (Chemist I, Chemist II, Chemist III, and Chemist IV).
    • Coordinates, performs and assists in routine, complex, and specialized chemical analyses using District approved methods. Performs routine and complex maintenance and repair of equipment and interacts with equipment vendors as necessary to troubleshoot instrumentation and schedule service.
    • Performs higher-level administrative tasks such as purchasing supplies, quality assurance tasks, LIMS, and management tasks.
    • Assists the Laboratory Manager in the administration of the laboratory by making recommendations concerning staffing, instrument and equipment purchases, and contractual services.
    • Maintains computerized records of water quality data using the Laboratory Information Management Software (LIMS) and spreadsheet applications, while also performing quality control reviews, quality assurance tasks, and statistical reviews.

     

    Minimum Qualifications:

    A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, limnology, botany, zoology, environmental science, or a field directly related to analytical chemistry and five years of professional experience in laboratory analysis. A chemistry degree is preferred.

    A master's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, limnology, botany, zoology, environmental science, or a field directly related to analytical chemistry can substitute for one year of the experience described above.

    A doctorate from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, limnology, botany, zoology, environmental science or a field directly related to analytical chemistry can substitute for two years of experience described above.

    Comparable professional experience can substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required college education.

Any offer of employment for a mandatory testing position will be contingent upon successfully passing a drug screening paid by SJRWMD.     Additional Details:

    Salary Range: $64,230.40 - $83,491.20

    Starting salary is based on qualifications and experience.
