Chemist evaluates the chemical and physical properties of various organic and inorganic substances. Utilizes established methods and procedures and laboratory equipment to perform analytical testing of substances. Being a Chemist prepares compounds, reagents and solutions. Develop and write technical reports of testing results. Additionally, Chemist requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager.   • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

    High School Diploma or GED Certificate.

    Degree in Chemistry, Biology or Microbiology

    6 months experience in environmental laboratory

    Requires a Valid Driver's License (subject to motor vehicle review)


    JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES


    Serves a s a backup for maintaining the laboratory database system, programs software with vendor support and assists software users.

    Assists Chemists and Lab Technicians with sample analysis.

    Analyze drinking water samples to determine inorganic chemical and physical properties utilizing ion chromatography, atomic absorption spectroscopy, and inductively coupled plasma.

    Conducts yearly certification requirements (MDLs, PA, PT Studies, revise SOPs).

    Maintain logbooks in each respective working area for quality assurance and equipment maintenance.

    Operates, maintains, and troubleshoots laboratory instruments and equipment.

    Coordinate, trains, and advise water/wastewater operators in sampling procedures.

    Coordinates drinking water and wastewater sample collection on monthly, quarterly, bi-annual, and annual basis with respective District office.

    Conduct peer review of raw data from other lab analysts and produces final reports.

    Prepares and monitors distribution of reagents and standards for use in lab or field.

    Prepares glassware, reagents, instruments, and samples for analysis.

    Conducts hazardous waste inventory and coordinate disposal.

    Recommends modification of the laboratory processes for improvement.

    Observes safety rules and maintains a safe work environment.

    Performs other duties as assigned.
