Chemical Dependency Director directs chemical dependency and substance abuse treatment and recovery programs. Leads, supports, and develops care team members. Being a Chemical Dependency Director oversees services from intake through discharge for continuity and quality of client care. Prioritizes client safety and directs crisis management. Additionally, Chemical Dependency Director develops and administers approved standards and guidelines, ensures all licensing and accreditation requirements are maintained. Establishes and administers recordkeeping and reporting processes. Requires a bachelor's degree. Requires Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC). Typically reports to a director. The Chemical Dependency Director manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Chemical Dependency Director typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required. Assistant Director, Chemical Safety and Chemical Hygiene Officer

  • Vanderbilt University (VU) in Nashville, TN currently has an opening for a Chemical Safety Assistant Director and Chemical Hygiene Officer. This position is part of a new, dynamic research-focused environmental health, safety, and sustainability department at Vanderbilt. The Chemical Safety Assistant Director will act as the university’s Chemical Hygiene Officer and will report directly to the Environmental Health, Safety, and Sustainability (EHSS) assistant vice chancellor. The Chemical Safety Assistant Director will provide innovative, strategic, and tactical leadership for a comprehensive laboratory chemical safety, industrial hygiene, and hazardous waste management program providing a safe work environment for all VU research community members who use hazardous chemicals, preventing loss of life and injury to faculty, staff, students, and visitors, protecting the environment, and protecting VU property. The program positively impacts the teaching and research mission of the university. 

    IDEAL CANDIDATE

    • Master’s degree in chemistry, environmental engineering or health, industrial hygiene, safety, or other related technical specialty is preferred. A bachelor’s degree is required. 
    • Certification as a Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM), or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) is preferred. 
    • 8 years of related experience with at least 2 years in a supervisory role is required. 10 years of experience, including some portion in the university research/laboratory environment, preferred.
    • Expert knowledge of chemical safety and hazardous waste regulations, OSHA Lab Standard, hazardous material/waste shipping regulations, and other applicable regulations and standards of performance.

    This position will be hybrid with at least three days each week spent working on campus and the remainder can be remote work if preferred with the ability to respond to campus for an emergency within an hour. Core work hours are 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., Monday – Friday with various alternative work hours and schedules available.
