Vanderbilt University (VU) in Nashville, TN currently has an opening for a Chemical Safety Assistant Director and Chemical Hygiene Officer. This position is part of a new, dynamic research-focused environmental health, safety, and sustainability department at Vanderbilt. The Chemical Safety Assistant Director will act as the university’s Chemical Hygiene Officer and will report directly to the Environmental Health, Safety, and Sustainability (EHSS) assistant vice chancellor. The Chemical Safety Assistant Director will provide innovative, strategic, and tactical leadership for a comprehensive laboratory chemical safety, industrial hygiene, and hazardous waste management program providing a safe work environment for all VU research community members who use hazardous chemicals, preventing loss of life and injury to faculty, staff, students, and visitors, protecting the environment, and protecting VU property. The program positively impacts the teaching and research mission of the university.
IDEAL CANDIDATE
This position will be hybrid with at least three days each week spent working on campus and the remainder can be remote work if preferred with the ability to respond to campus for an emergency within an hour. Core work hours are 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., Monday – Friday with various alternative work hours and schedules available.
