We have a wonderful opportunity for a seasoned Collections professional to oversee Taxing Authority Consulting Services’ Collections department, which performs the collections activities of delinquent tax accounts for Virginia government entities. This role will manage a team of supervisors, leads, and collection specialists who place and receive phone calls from delinquent taxpayers, send collection letters, skip trace accounts, respond to correspondence, and perform forced collection actions as authorized by law on behalf of TACS’s clients.
Responsibilities Include:
· Assists TACS’s Human Resources Department with recruiting, interviewing, hiring, and onboarding Collections department staff, and assists with the training of new and existing staff.
· Manages new and existing collections department staff.
· Oversees the daily workflow of the Collections department.
· Reviews current practices for efficiency and effectiveness.
· Researches, develops, and facilitates collection procedures according to Firm policies.
· Oversees the answering of calls, ensures that collections staff is providing information and answering questions regarding paid and unpaid taxes.
· Handles escalated calls for collections staff.
· Serves as the primary contact for third-party vendors related to collections including payment and phone vendors.
· Conducts or oversees skip-tracing according to established practices.
· Ensures proper handling of accounts under all Virginia and Federal collection laws, including the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act, and the Fair Credit Reporting Act, as they may be applicable.
Qualifications:
· High school diploma or GED and some college coursework in finance, business administration, accounting, or a related field
· 5 or more years of experience in Collections with at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial position
· Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software, and accounting software.
· Basic understanding of applicable state and federal collection laws including the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
· Strong leadership and persuasive skills.
Additional Desired Qualifications:
· Collections experience in a government setting preferred.
This position is based at our office in Henrico, Virginia with a hybrid option after the initial onboarding period.
