Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

In fulfilling his or her primary duties and responsibilities, the RN Charge Nurse shall exercise professional judgment in carrying out a variety of activities that maximize the well-being and quality of life of residents. The following is a partial listing of duties:

• Ensures that all nursing personnel assigned to you comply with the written policies and procedures established for this facility.
• Reviews periodically the department's facility policies, procedure manuals, job descriptions, etc. and makes recommendations for revisions if needed.
• Meets with assigned nursing staff, in planning the shifts' services, programs, and activities.
• Ensures that the Nursing Service Procedures Manual is current and reflects the day-day Nursing procedures performed in this facility.
• Ensures that all nursing staff is in compliance with their respective job descriptions.
• Participates in the development, maintenance, and implementation of the facility' s quality assurance program for the nursing service department.
• Participates in facility surveys made by authorized government agencies.
• Participates in resident's written discharge plans and the updating of discharge plans.
• Admits, transfers, and discharges residents as required.
• Completes accident/incident reports, as necessary.
• Maintains the Daily Census Report.
• Performs administrative duties such as completing medical forms, reports, evaluations, studies, charting, etc., as necessary.

Care Plans

• Reviews care plans to ensure that appropriate care is being rendered. Informs Coordinator of changes that need to be made.
• Ensures that nurses' notes reflect that the care plan is being followed.
• Ensures that Certified Nursing Assistants are aware of and refers to the resident care plans.
