The Charge Capture Specialist is primarily responsible for unit and area specific revenue capture and auditing of clinical services and procedures within revenue producing departments throughout the system. The Charge Capture Specialist serves as a communication link between staff, physicians, charge nurse, Business Office, revenue cycle director and other reimbursement specialists in discussing issues, recommendations, solutions and answering questions related to patient charges, auditing, and charge master.
Auditing and editing responsibilities are a large part of this role. The Charge Capture Specialist works closely with the manager, staff, and hospital departments to ensure accurate pricing and that quality standards are met within the department. They also work to educate the staff regarding revenue management and may need to notify Nurse Managers and staff members of omissions and or corrections and secure those corrections as needed.
Other responsibilities include reviewing and auditing patient billing from the previous day's entry and adjusting when necessary within the appropriate time frame; participating in interdepartmental meetings to remove write-off issues; maintaining knowledge of Activity Master for recommendations for managers; maintaining and revising the unit's charge master for proper coding, pricing and structure; coordinating with the Revenue Cycle Director for revenue management opportunities; conducting charge reconciliation to ensure optimal charge capture; and reviewing and monitoring web information regarding emergency services, reimbursement, and revenue management.
