REPORTS TO : Director of Business and Finance
POSITION SUMMARY :
Prepare, cook and serve hot and cold food items to students, staff, and visitors. Prepare food in accordance with established menus and all health, State, and federal nutritional guidelines and portions, and safety and sanitary guidelines.
Assist with maintaining accurate inventory of food and supplies, restocking, and ordering of items as needed.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS :
1. Prepare and serve balanced, appealing and age appropriate proportion meals to students, staff, and visitors in compliance with all State and federal nutritional guidelines and established menus.
2. Assist with menu preparation and adapt menus and servings to meet the needs of special needs’ children.
3. Complete daily meal attendance summaries and food production reports.
4. Conduct on-going inventory of food and supplies, restocking and rotating inventory as needed, and placing orders for same as needed to ensure adequate supplies to meet menu servings.
5. Assist with set up and distribution of daily snacks.
6. Prepare meals and food supplies for special events such as field trips, board meetings, school programs and similar activities as needed.
7. Must maintain a clean, orderly work area and follow proper sanitation procedures at all times.
8. Must maintain a positive attitude and communication with students, staff, parents and visitors to the School.
9. Demonstrate safe food handling practices for hot and cold food as well as proper rotation of food items to minimize waste and reduce costs.
10. Operate kitchen equipment and utensils as needed to fulfill duties.
11. Clean up after meals including washing dishes, pots, pans, counters, appliances, and floors.
12. Assist with completion of reports to the USDA Food Program and Michigan Department of Education, Food and Nutrition Program.
13. Operate and care for kitchen equipment and supplies and report items requiring repair and service.
14. Ensure the kitchen area is clean, sanitary, and complies with all health and safety codes.
15. Assist with gathering all information on inventory, food usage, purchases, and related items required for annual audit.
16. Must hold and maintain current CPI certification in verbal de-escalation and physical restraint (training provided by the school district).
17. Other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS :
1. Must be dependable in work habits.
2. Must have high school diploma or equivalency.
3. Must obtain and maintain current Serve Safe certification.
4. Demonstrates good communication skills with parents and professionalism in a variety of
situations.
5. Must have good knowledge of proper methods of preparing and serving food in large
quantities and for storing and preserving food.
6. Must have at least one year prior food service experience.
7. Must have good knowledge of sanitary and safety principles and practices applicable to
food production and serving.
8. Must have working knowledge of the use and application of cleaning supplies for
appliances, equipment and serving areas.
9. Ability to plan and prepare menus.
10. Ability to work under time constraints and meet food production schedules.
11. Must complete and pass a criminal history background check according to applicable
laws and school board policies.
13. Must be able to speak English (speak, read, write, and comprehend).
WORKING CONDITIONS / SAFETY HAZARDS :
1. School / commercial kitchen environment.
2. Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and tissue.
3. Must be able to maintain confidentially.
