    Chaplain

    Pay Range: $60,000 - $70,000 annually (Pay information will vary depending upon relevant experience for the position.)

    The Chaplain for Episcopal SeniorLife Communities (ESLC) is responsible for the spiritual life at all program sites. She/he is a member of the management team, works with staff and volunteers at each program site. The chaplain oversees and develops a spiritual life team to meet the needs of all Residents and staff.

     

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

    • Provides sacramental, liturgical and overall leadership to the spiritual life program.
    • Offers pastoral care to Residents and staff.
    • Coordinates other pastoral care as needed across all faiths.
    • Works with community clergy in building pastoral services at our program sites.
    • Oversees internships (CPE) and training opportunities with local theological schools.
    • Supervises Pastoral Care Assistants.
    • Builds a committed core of pastoral volunteers and oversees their service, in conjunction with the Volunteer Coordinator.
    • Recruits, trains and supports a group of clergy and chaplains to meet the expanding needs of ESLC.
    • Networks with local churches of all faiths.
    • Represents ESLC at Diocesan meetings and functions.
    • Be an active participant in Resident life activities and Resident Care Planning, when appropriate.
    • Create and manage pastoral care budget.
    • Develop and maintain pastoral care policies and procedures.
    • Assist with other duties as needed that support ESLC’s mission, vision and values.

    Requirements

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Must be an Episcopal priest under the pastoral care of the Bishop of Rochester.
    • Will be governed by the constitution and canons of the Episcopal Church, the constitution and canons of The Episcopal Diocese of Rochester and the New York State Religious Corporations Act.
    • Will function as the chief Chaplain for ESLC.
    • Must demonstrate the ability to interact courteously and tactfully with staff, residents, family members, visitor, vendors and the general public.

     

    ACCOUNTABILITY: The consequences of mistakes in interactions with residents, visitors, or staff with a potential loss of current and/or potential residents. This position may / will be required to provide direct care or have access to resident property or belongings.

    Performing duties of this job requires occasional walking and standing in and around the reception area, and lobby. Must be able to occasionally lift loads of 30 pounds without assistance and the ability to sit, talk, and hear is required. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

    WORKING CONDITIONS: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. The majority of essential job duties are performed indoors, in a normal office environment. Being located at the main entrance of the building may expose the employee to drafts and temperature fluctuations. This position may/will be required to provide direct care or have access to resident property or belongings.  

    SUPERVISORY RELATIONSHIP: The work is performed within established guidelines, and requires periodic supervision. The employee exercises some initiative and independent judgment to effectively perform the essential job duties of this position.

    RESPONSIBILITY FOR OTHERS: The employee has no direct responsibility for others. 

    SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES: Shall be fully acquainted with all safety policies and procedures of ESLC. Takes an active role in all fire drills during the shift and/or emergencies for internal and external disasters as monitored by supervisor and incident manager. Must comply with facility in-service requirements.

    Maintain confidentiality of all information related to the organization, residents, participants, family and staff, that may be encountered, either formally or informally, during the normal course of business. This includes medical and treatment records, financial and human resources information.
