Prepares adaptive equipment used during treatment and supports patient activities. Being a Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant documents therapeutic activities and details of patients progress. Requires an associate degree. Additionally, Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant requires NBCOT Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant (COTA) certification. Typically reports to an occupational therapist. Summary:
Provides occupational therapy services as assigned by and under the supervision of an OTR . Keeps treatment skills upgraded through continuing education, program development, and research.
Age Specific Responsibility:
Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served in the assigned department/program. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’ requirements relative to his or her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department’s/program’ policies and procedures.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
A. Provides patient care.
B. Maintains proper occupational therapy documentation according to established time standards.
C. Communicates with other appropriate people to integrate OT treatment as necessary, or as directed.
D. Participates in various meetings and inservices as assigned.
E. Functions as a patient advocate and maintains patient confidentiality.
Other Job Responsibilities:
F. Assists in the training, evaluation and supervision of Occupational Therapy Assistant students and volunteers.
G. Assists in maintaining clean and orderly treatment areas.
H. Supports program operations as assigned.

Responsibilities in Quality Improvement:
Participates in the review and evaluation of quality and appropriateness of care. Contributes by participating in meetings, identifying problems and seeking solutions. Assists in provision of quality patient care; participates in departmental/programmatic efforts to monitor and report.
