    The Nurse Midwife will provide nursing care to patients with obstetric and gynecologic needs during pregnancy and normal delivery under the direction of Physicians and/or Registered Nurses (RN).

    Principle Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Provide professional care for patients with obstetric and gynecologic needs.
    • Assist patients in labor and delivery, as well as postpartum care.
    • Ensure safety and health of mother and child.
    • Identifies needs for additional care.
    • Performs physical examinations.
    • Orders, evaluates and monitors medical and laboratory diagnostic tests and treatment plans.
    • Prepares, develops and initiates treatment plan.
    • Perform related duties as assigned.

    Education, Licensure/Certification, and Training Required for the Job:

    • Requires State of Michigan Licenses: RN and Midwife.
    • Certification: American College of Nurse-Midwives
    • 2-4 years of experience in the field or in a related area.
    • Must be a registered nurse and familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field.
    • Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
    • Masters Degree in Nurse Midwifery, Nursing or Health related field preferred.

    Skills and Abilities Required:

    • High level of interpersonal skills, written and verbal, necessary to effectively communicate, establish, and maintain productive working relationships with people inside and outside the Department and/or Practice.
    • Excellent analytical ability necessary to independently identify and resolve extremely complex and unusual problems or discrepancies.
    • Clinical knowledge to meet the medical requirements relating to various procedures.
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding patients, personnel and/or financial data.
    • Patient management skills necessary to provide quality care.
    • Analytical ability to monitor data, develop treatment plans.
    • Independent judgment to monitor and respond to changes in patient conditions.
    • Interpersonal skill necessary to effectively communicate with patient, family members, medical staff and nursing personnel.

    Safety Requirements:

    • Compliance with Departmental Health and Safety policies and procedures.

    Working Conditions/Schedules:

    • 40 hour work week, hours and days to be determined by the business needs of the department. Additional hours may be required.
