Certified Nurse Midwife provides professional care for patients with obstetric and gynecologic needs. Assists patients in labor and delivery, as well as postpartum care. Being a Certified Nurse Midwife ensures safety and health of mother and child and identifies need for additional care. Works in conjunction with a practicing physician. GENERAL SUMMARY:
Performs obstetric and gynecologic assistance to the Certified Nurse Midwife in a private office or clinical setting. Performs clerical, billing, and processing functions of the assigned work area as well as more difficult and complex functions which involve decisions of moderate degree and require considerable typing, customer service, and time management skills. Complies with all safety and infection control standards. Participates in quality assessment and continuous quality improvement activities. Performs all job duties and responsibilities in a courteous and customer-focused manner according to the Hurley Family Standards of Behavior.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Works under the clinical supervision of a Certified Nurse Midwife or OB/GYN provider and administratively under the clinical coordinator who reviews work for completeness and accuracy in conformance with policies and procedures.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
1. Performs obstetrical and gynecological assistance such as taking and recording vital signs, observing symptoms, recording histories, reporting abnormalities and administering injections and medications under the supervision of a licensed health care provider.
2. Carries out or assists the Certified Nurse Midwife or OB/GYN provider with diagnostic procedures or treatments. Explains moderately complex procedures and activities to patients.
3. Keeps rooms and equipment clean and stocks with necessary supplies.
4. Demonstrates effective judgment and ability to understand, react competently, and triage (if appropriate) the unique needs of patient age groups served.
5. Registers and interviews patients. Keys pertinent patient information into the computer system including patient demographics, insurance information, and medical history. Verifies patient insurance and identifies proper billing procedures.
6. Verifies and enters charges and patient information revisions into the computerized information system.
7. Types forms, letters, appointment cards, receipts, histories, records, vouchers, charts, or other materials from a rough draft or other source utilizing electronic medical record (EMR)d processor, or computer.
8. Composes routine letters, rough draft report narratives, and other correspondence as required. Activities may involve use of technical and/or medical terminology and independent action and discretion.
9. Receives fees from patients and other sources. Accurately maintains records, files, charts, and other information. Pulls schedules for patient care providers in a timely manner.
10. Courteously greets patients, physicians, visitors, and other customers. Answers telephone and receives callers with exceptional customer service. Schedules and confirms appointments, takes messages, and returns phone calls promptly. Assists patients with problems encountered. Refers individuals to appropriate personnel as needed.
11. Interacts with physicians, staff, and patients to relay information accurately. Ensures and assists with appropriate patient follow-up and customer service evaluations.
12. Gathers and compiles statistical data and prepares standardized reports such as patient demographics, patient visits, and provider utilization.
13. Accurately maintains records, files, charts, and other information. Verifies accuracy of information and completeness of records, forms, and other documents according to detailed procedures or by comparison with original sources. Obtains necessary information for preparing new records; ascertains credit and insurance information; and obtains any missing reports, tests, results, x-rays, and so forth. Pulls schedules for patient care providers in a timely manner.
14. Assists in the orientation of personnel newly assigned to the clinic.
15. Requisitions supplies and equipment. Receives and distributes mail. Performs other miscellaneous clerical work as required.
16. Ability to anticipate what patient requires at each visit such as timing of testing and ensuring patient completes what is needed prior to leaving office. Including required teaching directed by type of appointment or gestational age of pregnant patient.
17. Flexibility and ability to multitask in office setting.
18. Able to handle unforeseen events, problem solve for solutions.
19. Confidence relaying provider directed instructions to patient for follow-up, procedures, or test results.
20. Position requires flexibility to function in more than one office location, will require traveling to different offices, currently 30mins apart.
21. Responsible for assisting administration in expansion of services to additional ambulatory sites.
22. Serves as a subject matter expert, facilitating clinical direction and promoting evidenced based care.
23. Performs other duties as required/assigned. Utilizes new improvements and/or technology that relate to job assignment.
