Ceramics Engineer, Sr. develops manufacturing processes and equipment for converting ceramics into useful products.     PURPOSE STATEMENT:

    The Sr. Technical Engineer is responsible for managing, planning, scheduling, directing and/or otherwise coordinating designated project(s) from concept to completion.  The Sr. Technical Engineer assists in ensuring the success of the department’s training related activities and compliance programs. The Sr. Technical Engineer leads investigations, provides analysis, and makes recommendations for improvement as directed by the Director, Utility Shared Services.

    Responsibilities

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Provides technical and engineering assistance to various departments in planning, design and construction on specific projects and strategic initiative programs.
    • Develops, defines and executes project scope, goals and deliverables. Establishes detailed timeline and comprehensive budgets for projects.
    • Provides assistance and technical support to the Operator Qualification (OQ) Program Manager.
    • Works with Integrity Management Program (IMP) Engineer to monitors/tracks and ensure OQ cover task field evaluations are in compliance with our O&M.
    • Partners with the engineering department to identify, monitor and provide recommendations to reduce unaccounted gas losses across our propane systems.
    • Researches and recommends equipment and new technology that could increase operational efficiency and reduction in costs.
    • Excellent working knowledge with federal and PUC pipeline regulations, local plumbing code, NFPA code, and manufacture’s specifications and/or company-established standards and procedures.
    • Interacts with customers, contractors and governmental agencies. Investigates and resolves customer issues or problems.  Coordinates with various company and outside personnel such as, plumbers, vendors, consultants and engineers to resolve issues.
    • Complies with all safety rules and efficiency initiatives and cooperates in the fullest in the promotion of safety and safe work habits, to include the reporting of any unsafe conditions or acts.
    • Consistently supports a culture of safety to ensure protection of our people, the community and the environment.
    • Keeps current with laws, governmental regulations, trends, processes and development in this industry.
    • Assists in the many other aspects of regulatory compliance, e.g. Tariffs, Utility Reports, security access requirements for various agencies.
    • Performs all other related duties as instructed by supervisor/manager.

    OTHER FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Complies with all safety rules and cooperates in the fullest in the promotion of safety and safe work habits, to include the reporting of any unsafe conditions or acts. Maintains all EH&S training on a current basis.
    • Complies with all applicable Hawaii Gas policies and procedures.
    • Maintains assigned work area and equipment in a clean, orderly and safe manner; performs housekeeping duties as required and/or instructed. Works in a safe and responsible manner.
    • Performs all other related duties as instructed by supervisor/manager.

    Qualifications

    Required Education and/or Work Experience:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Civil Engineering.
    • 10 years of successful in-field experience in the liquid or gas pipeline industry.
    • 5 years of experience in design, planning and project management.
    • Demonstrates competency to understand and interpret federal and state regulations.
    • Good working knowledge of CFR 49, Parts 191 and 192, NFPA 54, 58 and 59, gas sections of county plumbing codes, city and state right-of-way requirements.
    • Proficient in basic Microsoft Office Applications e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Project.
    • Working experience in a Union environment.

    Required Licensure, Certification, Registration or Designation:

    • Valid Hawaii Driver’s License
    • May be required to obtain and maintain certification for access to controlled/secured facilities, e.g. military bases, coast guard jurisdictional areas and other clearance related to the work
