Organization Overview
The Planning, Performance and Quality Management Office (PPQM) provides an enterprise-level perspective on planning and performance and provides a focal point for Laboratory contractor assurance activities. Within PPQM, the Quality Management Office (QMO) works with line organizations on developing and delivering programs, activities, and services that integrate quality assurance, environmental, and safety management principles throughout the Laboratory. Deployed Quality Representatives work closely with their assigned organizations to provide quality assurance functions tailored to the organization and serve as a liaison back to the QMO.
Position Description
The Quality Management Office (QMO) at Brookhaven National Laboratory is seeking a self-starter to join their team as a deployed Quality Representative. As an engineer, you will apply standard quality assurance and quality control practices and techniques in specific aspects of design, procurement, manufacture, test, and initial operation. In this role, you will work with colleagues to support the implementation of quality assurance and quality control methods on projects and processes. Activities include planning, performing, and documenting assessments of processes against requirements; support the implementation of corrective action plans, analyzing performance data, performing supplier reviews and selections and incoming inspections, managing calibration programs, and developing and reviewing procedures.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Perform assessments of implementation of procedures and Quality Assurance Program requirements. This includes developing assessment criteria, assessing implementation of requirements, documenting results, preparing reports, performing follow-up, and tracking corrective actions.
Perform independent verification of corrective action implementation resulting from internal and external assessments, causal analysis, critiques, and surveillances.
Participate in and potentially lead causal analysis teams.
Review/approval of technical documents (e.g., drawings, engineering change requests, statements of work, specifications, procedures, purchase requisitions) to ensure appropriate quality requirements have been addressed.
Perform vendor evaluations, including site inspections, factory, and incoming inspection of materials.
Assist in the development and maintenance of equipment calibration program for each organization. Including procurement, requirements, calibration facility ad maintenance records.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Bachelor's degree in engineering or scientific discipline.
Knowledge of basic quality assurance and quality control methods.
Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills to interact with a diverse group of engineers, scientists, and technical staff.
Ability to work in a matrix organization, both individually as well as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
Core skills include organizational and time management, ability to gather information and resourcefulness in resolving problems.
Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Microsoft Visio.
The ability to perform field surveillances. May require the ability to be in areas of magnetic fields in excess of 5 gauss and work in radiologically controlled areas.
Preferred Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities
Minimum five (5) years progressively responsible related work experience.
Knowledge of or training in specific quality standards or skills (e.g., ISO9001, NQA-1, ASQ Certification, Auditing).
Ability to work independently, have the desire and ability to learn new systems, make informed decisions and regularly exercise a high degree of discretion and judgement.

You will be placed at the level and salary commensurate with your experience.
