Catering Manager plans, directs, and coordinates catered events for an establishment. Negotiates contracts, assists in the selection of menu items, schedules catering staff, arranges for facilities or equipment, and communicates customer needs to the appropriate personnel. Being a Catering Manager develops and maintains catering accounts by ensuring customer satisfaction before, during, and after the event. May require a bachelor's degree. Additionally, Catering Manager typically reports to a head of a unit/department. The Catering Manager supervises a group of primarily para-professional level staffs. May also be a level above a supervisor within high volume administrative/ production environments. Makes day-to-day decisions within or for a group/small department. Has some authority for personnel actions. To be a Catering Manager typically requires 3-5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor.     Under the general supervision of the Catering Manager, the Catering / Aspen Grille Service Manager provides leadership, direction and outstanding customer service for LSC Catering events and in the Aspen Grille restaurant.

    The position is responsible for engaging with clients hosting events both at the LSC and in spaces across Northern Colorado where our services are ordered, and ensuring their catering expectations are exceeded and the food and beverage part of their experience adds value to the clients event.

    The Catering / Aspen Grille Service Manager serves as an educator to student employees and is guided by defined student success initiatives that aim to help develop student employees and give them tools during their experience that will give them confidence and assist them after graduating from CSU.

    The Catering / Aspen Grille Service Manager is responsible for service functions of the Aspen Grille, including but not limited to : customer service policies, front of house training, point of sale functions, procedures, scheduling assistance, supervision, feedback

    Food & beverage service : assists with menu and event planning, purchasing, staffing, serving, merchandising and presentation. Required Job Qualifications

    • Demonstrated experience supervising a staff of six employees or more for at least one year of full time employment.
    • Two years of customer service experience in dining operations.
    • High School Diploma or equivalent.
    • Reflecting CSUs

    Preferred Job Qualifications

    • Possession of a current TIPS (Training for Intervention Procedures) certification.
    • Previous work experience on a college campus.
    • At least one full year of experience serving large banquets.
    • Demonstrated exemplary customer service skills.
    • Ability to mentor and train others.

    Essential Duties Job Duty Category Customer Service Duty / Responsibility

    • Work with LSC Dining leadership to set policies and procedures with regard to customer service practices for Catering and Aspen Grille operations.
    • Seek out feedback from guests through surveys, engagement, Formstack, and other means that provide measurable and actionable outcomes.
    • Identify opportunities to be inclusive and better communicate with guests through signage and other means with regard to menu offerings, dietary restrictive options, allergens etc.

    Collaborate within department as well as LSC Marketing to take action with findings.

    • Service events as scheduled by setting up equipment, clothing tables, delivering food and beverage items to catering spaces, clean up post event.
    • Greet clients and guests, and address customer concerns as needed.
    • Maintain own professional development with regard to industry trends and how to improve customer service practices.

    • Lead by example and mentor student staff on the importance of exemplary customer service.
    • Recognize good service from student employees and professional staff when you see it and provide ongoing feedback to staff and issue corrective action as warranted to student employees.
    • Hire student staff and collaborate with other managers to determine staffing needs and create schedules for service and front of house operations.

    Embrace and apply the tenets of a team model with professional and student staff to sustain an inclusive work environment that fosters a culture of belonging in support of multiple and intersecting identities.

    • Indirectly supervise staff by delegating tasks, assigning work, checking presentation and following service timelines.
    • Upholds the highest standards with food safety practices, product quality and presentation, and exemplary customer service.
    • Development and implementation of full training & onboarding process for new hires.

    • Onboarding of student employees into dining operations. Creating a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere and laying the groundwork for retention.
    • Create, maintain and modernize training tools that balance hands-on training and written supplements, while also leveraging technology and efficiencies to get staff comfortable and confident serving events.
    • Lead by example through own professional development seeking industry specific training as well as diversity, equity, inclusion and social justice training.
    • Collaborate with other managers to develop standard operating procedures that will be followed for the safe delivery of food.
    • Create standard operating procedures for front of house personnel and prioritize when training new hires.
    • Contribute to the LSC SHAPE Training & Talent Development program by supporting staff training planning and execution, program attendance, and committee membership to further support the mission and purpose of the LSC.
    • Support LSC colleagues and actively model a collegial work environment by demonstrating diversity, equity, and inclusion.

    Percentage Of Time 20 Job Duty Category Alcohol Service Duty / Responsibility

    • Become a TIPS trainer and work with other department trainers to meet the needs of the department with regard to responsible alcohol service.
    • Become familiar with liquor laws and points of emphasis in the areas we offer alcohol service.
    • Assists in procuring alcohol products, keeping them stored properly per department standards and knowing how to create, present and serve the highest quality products.
    • Provides oversight at events and in licensed space with both other servers of alcohol and guests consuming alcohol.
    • Update and modernizes policies that create great guest experiences while also protecting the liquor license and other operations dependent on it.

    Percentage Of Time 15 Job Duty Category Procurement Duty / Responsibility

    Make recommendations and collaborate with Catering Manager and Catering Service Manager on linens, uniforms and other investments that will improve service and presentation at Catering events.

    Identify other tools needed to operate and offer an exemplary level of customer service. Assist in purchasing equipment and supplemental materials that will help with feel, ambiance and merchandising the products and services Catering and the Aspen Grille offer.

    • Assess food, beverage, and supply needs for events and place timely orders for product.
    • Maintain proper storage of product, and assist with inventory counts and inventory management.
