Cashier - Grocery Store assists customers checking out in a store. Scans items, requests price checks, honors appropriate coupons, collects payment and gives change as appropriate. Being a Cashier - Grocery Store is responsible for counting contents of cash register drawer at the end of each shift. May bag items or perform other duties as needed. Additionally, Cashier - Grocery Store may help with store opening and closing procedures. Typically requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor. Responsibilities
· Answer customer questions or refer to appropriate staff. Attempt to resolve customer complaints and if necessary, contact Manager-on-Duty.
· Answer and route phone calls, take and route messages as needed.
· Explain benefits of membership and sign up new members.
· Answer questions on member equity status from database in terminal.
· Sign up customers for co-op sponsored classes or other events.
· Issue credits to customers for returned items or refer to appropriate staff ensure that returns are properly disposed of and shrink promptly and accurately recorded.
· Help customers with placing special orders.
· Call customers when special orders are delivered, from information provided by receivers.
