The Health Information Management (HIM) Supervisor is responsible for all aspects of running the HIM department under the direction of the CFO. The responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: coordinating releases of information; ensuring IT systems affecting medical records are effectively and accurately used; managing filing and records management systems; completing medical records; coding and releasing of records for billing; compilation of monthly statistics as assigned; support department budget development; department procedure development; and other duties as assigned under the direction of the Chief Financial Officer. The HIM Supervisor may also serve as the Privacy Officer for the District.
Under the direction of the Administrator, this position may prepare medical staff agendas and minutes and support provider peer review. Other duties may be assigned by the Administrator.
The HIM Supervisor must demonstrates a high level of commitment to the success of the department and hospital district. The HIM Supervisor promotes trust and respect with fellow employees, demonstrates a commitment to working with others as part of the health care team, and solve problems in an innovative manner, using factual information as a basis for decision making.
Specific to HIM Supervisor:
Manage HIM staff, including hiring, evaluation, motivation, discipline, and termination of employees. Must be able to cover most areas of the department and establish efficient workflows. Ensure IT systems are effectively and accurately used for medical records. Serve on the Revenue Committee and other ad hoc teams as needed. May serve as the Privacy Officer for the District. Develop procedures that adhere to state and federal guidelines and common medical information practice to maximize reimbursement and avoid fraud and abuse sanctions.
