Typically requires a master's degree in social work or equivalent. Additionally, Case Manager - Mental Health Services typically requires a State License to Practice Clinical Social Work.     Position Summary: This position is responsible for performing case management work to facilitate the treatment plan process for clients referred for services. The primary role of a QBHS is managing an assigned caseload to provide Community Psychiatric Services and Treatment (CPST) and Therapeutic Behavioral Services (TBS) based on the medical necessity, consistent with clinical recommendation and client needs.  

     

    Core Responsibilities of the Qualified Behavioral Health Specialist: 

     

    • Maintain confidentiality of records relating to clients’ treatment 
    • Possesses a high degree of interpersonal competence with both staff and clients 
    • Top-notch time management skills and interest to utilize evidence-based approaches to mental health care 
    • Receives assignments of individuals served in need of mental health services and monitors client’s behavior in relation to treatment plan goals and clients’ needs 
    • For effective service, becomes familiar with information on clients’ medical records for effective services i.e. assessment and treatment recommendation; reading psychological reports and psychiatric assessments when available; refers clients to appropriate social service agencies when needed 
    • Provide behavioral, case management, and/or skill building interventions that are identified on clients’ individual service plan; you are required to practice within the scope of position and will not provide therapeutic/counseling services 
    • Responds appropriately to mental health emergency situations and adheres to crisis intervention protocol 
    • Learn about new developments in their field by reading professional literature, attending courses and seminars, and establishing and maintaining contact with other social service agencies 
    • Check electronic correspondence daily and submit responses to administrative requests within 24-48 hours 
    • Meets minimum billing goals on a monthly basis 
    • Submit billing and other related paperwork in a timely fashion: submit BIRP notes within 24-48 hours from the service date for all clients  
    • Documents all service contacts on a timely basis including consultation with other relevant professionals, documents any changes on treatment plan and maintains the case records in accordance with agency and regulatory standards and requirements 
    • Participates in regular interdisciplinary staff meetings and trainings 
    • Attends supervision sessions with Clinical Director
    • Other duties as assigned by supervisor or the agency Chief Executive Officer

    Education and/or Experience 

    • Preferably a Bachelor’s degree (or higher) from an accredited college or university (minimum High School Diploma) 
    • Minimum one (1 ) plus years of experience in a mental health or social services environment. Minimum three (3 ) plus years of experience in a mental health or social services environment to deliver TBS services.
    • Successful completion of Brighter Tomorrow Community Services New Hire Orientation 
    • Successful clearance of the following background checks and registries: 
      • Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) 
      • Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) 

     

    Essential Knowledge and Abilities 

     

    Working knowledge of the nature of: 

    • serious mental illness and related case management principles and methods 
    • consumers’ rights 
    • local community resources and service delivery systems such as housing, social, welfare, education 
    • client record documentation requirements 
    • computerized program software, internet access, and database, spreadsheet and word processing programs 

     

    Demonstrated ability to: 

    • respond appropriately to mental health emergency situation and procedures 
    • read and understand assessments, evaluations, observation, and use in developing treatment to clients 
    • identify community resources and services for clients and coordinate provision of services 
    • establish effective working relationships with internal agency staff as well as with relevant community organizations 
    • interact positively with consumers and their families, work as a team member, communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, to maintain confidentiality, and to work independently under general supervision. 
    • follow all ethical and legal guidelines as prescribed by federal, state and local standards. 

     

    Physical Demands 

    The physical and mental requirements of this job may include the following: seeing, hearing, speaking and writing clearly. Occasional reaching with hands and arms, stooping, kneeling, crouching, frequently sitting, standing and walking, may be required for long periods of time. Occasionally lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects weighting up to 50 pounds; and regularly drives a motor vehicle.
