    PRE-EMPLOYMENT SCREENINGS: Brenau University will conduct criminal background checks on all persons being considered for initial employment. In some circumstances, an FBI fingerprint report may be necessary to satisfy the requirement. Once employed, employees must hold and continue to maintain a favorable criminal history background. Random background checks are performed. Credit checks may be performed on candidates/employees who are selected for a position that regularly engages in handling credit cards or other company monies. A Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) may be performed during the hiring process, or as part of a random check. MVR checks are required to meet insurance requirements for those employees operating a university vehicle or participating in any driving activity on behalf of Brenau University, (including operating a golf cart, rented vehicle or one’s personal vehicle). Employees who travel must be at least 21 years of age, have a valid Georgia driver’s license, and good driving record. All employees who operate university vehicles, who are employed in a sensitive position, or who travel regularly as part of their job responsibilities may be subject to post-hire drug screening and random drug-screening. All employees are subject to reasonable suspicion drug screening..

    Brenau has a central focus and high priority on preparing students for their future careers through a unique blend of curricular and co-curricular programs. As a result, the Director of Career Services works collaboratively with internal and external constituents to provide an innovative and comprehensive program to assist all students in discovering, experiencing, and preparing for their career path. The Director is specifically responsible for overseeing career preparation programs, internship programs, developing employer relationships, and the graduate employment rate. This position reports directly to the Vice President for Student Development & Engagement.

     

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Master’s degree required.
    • 3-5 years of experience leading student career development initiatives, including advising/leading students in internships and other workplace experiences.
    • General knowledge of a wide variety of career paths and skills required for them.
    • Excellence in oral and written communication including the ability to deliver engaging presentations to small and large groups.
    • Self-starter with demonstrated leadership qualities and problem-solving skills.
    • Ability to develop appropriate, welcoming, and productive relationships with a diverse student population.
    • Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with college constituents and the community.


    Responsibilities:

    • Serves as primary liaison between the University and its students, alumni, and potential employers on a state, regional, and national scale.
    • Responsible for fiscal planning and management of the Office of Career Services.
    • Maintains current and develops new relationships with external organizations for the purpose of expanding employment opportunities for students and alumni.
    • Coordinate the placement process for student employees in the Federal Work Study Program.
    • Closely coordinates communication with deans, department chairs, and faculty to ensure the Office of Career Services is meeting the needs of the colleges and departments.
    • Monitors, analyzes, and evaluates the current scope of services offered through career services and plans, implements, and directs new programs.
    • Serves in various professional organizations (including but not limited to the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE), Southern Association of Colleges and Employers (SoACE), and the Georgia Association of Colleges & Employers (GACE), which provide broad opportunities for job development networking and activities.
    • Provides career advising expertise to student and alumni regarding the job search process, interviewing, resume and letter writing, as well as all other facets of career engagement.
    • Conducts workshops, seminars, and other presentations for students, faculty, employer, and alumni groups; coordinates job fair activities.
    • Manages Handshake – the University’s online recruiting platform for higher education students and alumni.
    • Conducts annual graduate employment surveys, as well as regular assessment of student learning outcomes.
    • Provides general support as a part of the Brenau Experience for major campus events, including but not limited to Welcome Week, Orientation, Open House, Enrollment Days, Move-In Days, and Commencement.
    • Other reasonable duties as assigned by the Vice President.

    Physical Demands and Aptitudes:

    Sedentary work. Work is performed in an office environment and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards. Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Must have the ability to walk short distances, and/or drive a vehicle to deliver and pick up materials. Exerting up to 20 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Repetitive motion. Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers. The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading.


    Work Hours:

    37.5 hours per week – Monday-Friday from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm.  Hours may be extended to meet the needs of the department; some evening and weekend responsibilities and on-call rotation (2-3 times a semester) should be expected.

    This position is an on-ground position in Gainesville, GA.
