    SUMMARY OF POSITION: 

    Under the general supervision of the Student Success Manager, the Career Services and Placement Coordinator directs the operation, policy-making, and development of career services for students and alumni. Career services focuses on providing counseling and assistance concerning career and vocational decisions. Administers cooperative education program.


    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Provides individual and group career counseling.
    • Administers and interprets vocational interest inventories.
    • Teaches one section of Freshmen Seminar each fall and spring semester.
    • Provides career-related seminars for interested students.
    • Maintains an up-to-date career resources library.
    • Maintains resumes for participating students and alumni and placement credentials for all students.
    • Produces and directs an annual career information exchange program and a student job interview fair.
    • Conducts the annual graduate employment survey.
    • Maintains, posts, and/or distributes information concerning full and part-time jobs.
    • Serves as a member of the admissions and readmissions committee.
    • Maintains membership and active involvement in appropriate professional organizations.
    • Reviews and updates annually all career services publications including the career guide, career services brochure, credential file forms, co-op forms, and graduate survey.
    • Supervises one Student Intern.
    • Directs and develops the college’s testing center including all management of Accuplacer program.
    • Provides oversight and management of appropriate grants and programs related to student internships.
    • Complies with College policies, procedures and administrative directives, as well as state, federal, and local laws, regulations, and ordinances.
    • Performs other related duties as assigned.


    KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

    • Demonstrated experience working with adult learners in a multi-cultural environment.
    • Effectively direct existing, comprehensive career services programs, and develop new ones on his/her own initiative.
    • Demonstrated dependability, creativity, good judgment, professionalism, and dedication to sound principles of student development.
    • Knowledgeable in career counseling techniques, job trends and career development skills, effective public relations and networking abilities.
    • Demonstrate understanding of the principles of college student development and the policies and structure of a typical four-year, public university.
    • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
    • Ability to work a flexible work schedule and travel periodically.
    • Ability to pass a pre-employment background check.
    • Demonstrated knowledge in one or more of the following areas: post-secondary educational systems, North Slope Borough [NSB] institutions and organizations; Iñupiat culture, language, values, and traditions.
    • Ability to interpret and represent North Slope community values, customs, and beliefs for the College.
    • Ability to interpret and represent College actions and western institutions to the North Slope community.
    • Ability to support Iḷisaġvik College’s mission.


    EDUCATION/CERTIFICATES/EXPERIENCE [Required]:

    • Associate’s Degree or equivalent.
    • Full-time experience on a college/university student services staff.


     

    EDUCATION/CERTIFICATES/TRAINING [Preferred]:

    • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in student personnel services, counseling and guidance, or related field.
    • Three years of professional experience in university/college setting or in business in a human resources or training and development function.
    • Valid driver’s license.

    Health Insurance - Iḷisaġvik College is self-insured and Meritain Health is the health insurance third party administrator. Iḷisaġvik College offers health insurance to our employees with a no cost premium, and $50/pay period for each additional dependent and a low cost annual deductible of $200 for employee only and $600 for family.

    Life Insurance - Iḷisaġvik College offers Life Insurance and Accidental Death & Dismemberment coverage through Guardian Life to employees at no cost to the employee in the amount of $100,000/per benefit.

    Additional supplemental or voluntary retirement, life insurance, disability benefits offered.
