      Summary
      Serves as the school system’s representative on security matters. Directs and coordinates the School Security Department, in accordance with Board approved policies, federal, state and judicial mandates. Advises the Board, the Superintendent and staff on security policies. Recommends policies, programs and procedures for the improvement of the Security Department.

      Essential Duties and Responsibilities
      • Supervises the staff in the department.
      • Disseminates, interprets, and administrates approved security policies and procedures.
      • Staffs the placement of security officers in accordance with approved policies and procedures and input from appropriate supervisors.
      • Maintains security records, files and documents, and supervises the maintenance of such.
      • Prepares statistical reports to meet various system, state and federal requirements.
      • Develops programs to meet the security needs of the school system and supervise the implementation.
      • Assess specific security policies, procedures and programs for meeting the present and future needs of the school system.
      • Establishes an organized plan for the security department which facilitates the effectiveness of its operation.
      • Administers specific procedures which should be followed in order to be in compliance with Board, state, federal and judicial mandates.
      • Assists in defining Security Departments’ mission and goals.
      • Communicates effectively and gains support for goals within the school system and the community.
      • Identifies and analyzes relevant information before making decisions or committing resources.
      • Serves as a model of professionalism and communicates educational values.
      • Evaluates and support staff constructively.
      • Guides and assists employees in enhancing their professional effectiveness.
      • Interviews, appraises, selects and assigns appropriate personnel for the effective delivery of the Security Departments’ programs.
      • Solicits and gives specific and constructive feedback.
      • Maintains a positive attitude to enhance the school system’s work climate.
      • Demonstrates an appreciation for the accomplishments of others.
      • Listens actively to all first responders prior to and during a crisis..
      • Uses clear and meaningful oral and written expression.

      • Communicates effectively with the community and gains their support for school system goals, programs and policies.
      • Seeks, allocates and maintains records for appropriate resources to support the Security Department.
      • Writes programs and projects relating to Security.
      • Maintains a visible and accessible presence in the school system.
      • Protects instructional time when scheduling events and communication efforts.
      • Ensures that department facilities are conducive to a positive work environment.
      • Assist with the development, implementation and monitoring of the District Crisis Management Plan
      • Inform all law enforcement agencies of the crisis, location and type of crisis.
      • Coordinate and work closely with Supervisor of Security
      • Ensure that the perimeter of the school and/or facility in question is secure and that the building is locked down.
      • Make sure the members of the district crisis team are notified.
      • Give update when applicable about the on going crisis situation.
      • Oversee the successful evacuation from the school to the secondary evacuation site.
      • Coordinate and direct contact with emergency medical services, local police and sheriff’s departments, fire departments and the highway patrol.
      • Coordinate and direct search-and-rescue operations when needed.
      • Assign a deputy to the superintendent for direct communication of crisis activity.
      Qualifications: Must possess a valid type A Louisiana Teachers’ Certificate with master’s degree, or meet the requirements for Educational Leadership Licensure endorsement according Bulletin 746 or a Bachelor Degree and substantial supervisory experience in criminal justice, law enforcement or a related field.

      Salary Range: AD105, $94,381-102,381
