Supervisor - Campus Police Dispatch

  • The Public Safety Dispatch Supervisor is the second level of a two level Public Safety - Dispatcher series. Incumbents are responsible for supervising and participating in the 7x24 dispatching, recording and reporting confidential activities of the police communications center and complex public safety operations. The Public Safety Dispatch Supervisor is distinguished from the Public Safety Dispatcher by its full supervisory authority.

    The work schedule for this position is flexible and will include working evenings and weekends.


    Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Supervises staff: prioritizes and assigns work; conducts performance evaluations; ensures staff is trained; and makes hiring, termination, and disciplinary recommendations
    • Performs quality control for police records to ensure compliance with College, State, and Federal regulations, including serving as Systems Security Officer for the Department of Public Safety
    • Develops and implements processes and procedures, maintains various confidential files associated with law enforcement and homeland security; makes recommendations regarding assigned areas of responsibility
    • Operates and maintains security and law enforcement equipment to include recognizing problems and scheduling maintenance
    • Responds to questions from faculty, staff, administrators, and the public regarding department services
    • Coordinates with other College departments, public and private organizations associated with the assigned areas of responsibility and outside contractors, to include contract management to meet operational missions of the work element. Serves as liaison to those and other outside organizations, such as the courts
    • Oversees and participates in the administration of the work unit budget to include preparing cost estimates, monitoring expenditures and recommending budget adjustments to meet operational needs
    • Serves as a dispatcher in emergency staffing situations
    • Performs other related duties as assigned


    Job Requirements:

    • High School Diploma or General Equivalency Degree and
    • Three years’ experience as a police dispatcher, including one year supervisory experience or coursework and
    • Arizona Criminal Justice Information System (ACJIS) Certification and
    • Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) Certification and
    • Tucson Police Department Database (RMS) Certification and
    • Arizona Systems Security Officer Certification

    or

    • An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above

    Physical Requirements:

    Positions in this class typically require: talking, hearing, seeing, repetitive motions and fine finger movements – using the fingers to manipulate/handle objects such as typing, sorting papers, activating buttons, sorting and separating small parts.

    Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
