    JOB SUMMARY
    Officers of the Arkansas Colleges of Health Education (ACHE) Office of Police and Security have the primary responsibility to provide protective and law enforcement services on the ACHE campus and property. Duties normally consist of monitoring security surveillance systems, manning a static security post, routine patrol, preliminary investigation, and traffic regulation. Officers are tasked with providing a safe environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors and occasionally to serve as receptionist at the main entrance, answer incoming phone calls to ACHE (first point of contact) ranging from general inquiries from the public, staff, and students to first-line response to emergency situations.
    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSBILITIES
    • Monitor security cameras and entry control systems
    • Monitor and control access to campus buildings
    • Provide occasional relief to front lobby receptionist, including greeting/directing visitors
    • Enforce local, state, and federal laws as well as college regulations
    • Monitor the campus for suspicious intruders
    • Detain and arrest individuals suspected of criminal activity
    • Respond to calls for assistance and emergencies
    • Enforce traffic and parking violations
    • Investigate reported crimes and conduct follow-up investigations
    • Patrol the college campus
    • All other duties as assigned by a supervisor
    QUALIFICATIONS AND CREDENTIALS
    Education and Experience
    Minimum Qualifications (qualifications as required by Arkansas Commission on Law Enforcement Standards and Training (CLEST))
    • Must possess an Arkansas Commission on Law Enforcement Standards and Training (CLEST) Basic Officer Certificate.
    • Be a citizen of the United States.
    • Be at least 21 years of age.
    • Possess a valid driver’s license.
    • Be a high school graduate or have passed the General Education Development Test indicating high school graduation level.
    • Must successfully pass a physical exam, psychological assessment, and background investigation.
    • Must successfully pass a drug test.
    • Must successfully complete a CLEST firearms qualification.
    • Must continuously meet all requirements and standards of CLEST minimum Arkansas law enforcement officer standards.
    • Must not have a felony or domestic abuse conviction or plea.
    Preferred Qualifications
    • Bachelors of Science in Criminal Justice or Criminology.
    • Prior full-time law enforcement experience.
    • Arkansas Crime Information Center Terminal Operator Certification.
    • Familiar with Microsoft Office Suite software.
    Required knowledge, skills, and abilities
    • Demonstrates a high degree of ethical behavior and adheres to the standards and policies of the Arkansas Colleges of Health Education and governing state and federal statutes.
    • Demonstrate knowledge of state and federal procedures regarding criminal evidence, arrest, use of force and investigations.
    • Ability to make rational decisions and maintain self-control in situations which involve considerable stress, danger, personal risk, violence hostility or the use of force.
    • Ability to work on weekends and holidays, on a rotational basis.
    • Ability to work special events during evening hours.
    • Must be able to occasionally work overtime, work rotating shifts, work evening/night shifts and be called in while off duty for a crisis on campus.

    • Comprehends and makes inferences from written material including federal and state statutes, city codes and ordinances, and college policies and operating procedures in order to enforce laws and determine appropriate charges or referrals.
    Physical and Sensory Abilities
    • May be exposed to prolonged periods of sitting and/or standing in performance of job duties.
    • May be required to work 12-hour shifts and over-time as needed.
    • May be required to work weekends, holidays, afternoon, or night shifts.
    • Must be able to physically respond (e.g., move rapidly, subdue an arrestee, run across campus or up several flights of stairs) to calls for service, alarms, and other emergencies.
    • Must be able to lift and/or move more than 100 pounds.
    • Occasional risk includes physical hazards from violent, aggressive, and hostile people, weapons, and high-stress situations.
    • Frequently required to see for purposes of reading and responding to emergency situations.
    • Frequently required to hear and understand speech at normal levels.
    • Frequently required to operate office equipment.
