Camera Operator, Television and Motion Picture operates videotape machines, disk-based file servers, camera control units, studio cameras, video switchers, audio mixers and other equipment used in the broadcast of live and taped television programming. May be expected to maintain a variety of program/transmitter logs. Being a Camera Operator, Television and Motion Picture may require an associate's degree or its equivalent with at least 5 years of experience in the field or in a related area. Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Additionally, Camera Operator, Television and Motion Picture relies on limited experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks. Works under general supervision.     For 29 years, the International Festival of Arts & Ideas (“Arts & Ideas”) has inspired and delighted audiences with an annual program of over 200 performing arts and humanities events year-round, at least 85% of which are free.

     

    Focused events in June range from world and nationally-renowned speakers sharing the stage with critical local voices for discussions on democracy, to jazz concerts, theatrical performances, dance; takeout mixology classes; bike and walking tours; and live, individual performances by local on-call artists on front lawns and sidewalks throughout the area.

     

    Year-round programs include special town-hall events, a fellowship program for youth, planning and implementing mini-festivals in New Haven’s culturally-rich neighborhoods, participation in the NEA Big Read, and our annual Visionary Leadership Event.

     

    JOB DESCRIPTION

    • Assist the Media Producer in production of a variety of video products for broadcasting, compression output, webcasting, video streaming, and digital distribution 
    • Plans and performs video post-production tasks as assigned which may include:
        • reviewing footage
        • making editorial decisions
        • video transcoding
        • editing rough cuts
        • audio adjustment
        • basic color correction
        • editing using Final Cut Pro software 
    • transcode and make video products available in a variety of formats
    • publish, organize, and optimize media on third party websites such as Vimeo, YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, and other social media platforms 
    • Operate sound and lights in-studio and camera switcher as assigned
    • Operate ENG style cameras for IMAG and broadcast
    • Spanish speaking editors strongly encouraged to apply!

    DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

    • Solid understanding of video production 
    • Strong knowledge of lighting and audio for video 
    • Produce consistently amazing cinematography 

    SKILLS/EXPERIENCE

    • Experience with multi-camera video switchers 

    SOFTWARE PROFICIENCY 

    (Training will be provided on Festival standard settings and operations for each platform) 

    • Final Cut Pro X, Adobe Photoshop, Facebook Live, YouTube, Streamyard, Vimeo  

     

    RELATIONSHIPS 

    • Reports to the Media Producer 
    • Key Communication with the Production Manager, Director of Marketing, Audio Designer & Audio Crew, Lighting Designer & Lighting Crew

    Non-Exempt

    Pay Rate: $20-$22/hour

    Schedule: Part-Time in May (mostly weekends), Full-Time in June
