    The Director Global Engineering Systems is responsible for all Engineering IT related systems which includes: PLM and related interface with SAP, CAD, SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Analysis, SharePoint and all other software/IT systems unique to Engineering. The position requires a strong background in PLM, CAD and Engineering IT-related tools and systems, as well as familiarity with ERP systems.

    The role will perform continuous analysis and assessment of current Engineering systems. The position develops, initiates recommendations for and supports execution of current and future system needs, future software applications upgrades and for advising leadership of computer training needs. This position is responsible for identifying and developing/providing training with respect to various current engineering systems and must make cost projections of sophisticated equipment features and benefits for computer hardware and software changes. The role is also responsible for driving user CAD and PLM standards and compliance with processes.

    Essential Duties: Monitor and evaluate current global engineering systems and global practices at Generac against external world class organizations to identify opportunities for future improvements and growth. Propose and lead future developments and implementations as approved. Align global Engineering IT related systems to operational and business requirements with those of ERP system (SAP) to ensure an optimized and efficient data translation and user experience exists. Build Long Range Global Plans (LRGP) and annual operating budgets relating to such evaluation and benchmarking. Plans should be of a 3 year term minimum, should include clear cost, risk, and return on investment elements. From the LRGP, build an Annual Operating Plan (AOP) for engineering systems on a worldwide basis. As the AOP develops, partner with the IT function, Advanced Manufacturing and the Accounting function, together with engineering leadership will be essential to drive the plans to budget and action. Manage PTC, Windchill, PDMLink, ProjectLink, QATrax, Ansys and other deployed programs. Engage with the IT Business Systems teams to identify and implement PLM integration processes to bridge PDMLink and SAP. Evaluate, plan, implement and support the internal tools and systems environment that supports a globally forward-thinking product development group using PDM/PLM and other software tools for CAD/CAE data and engineering documentation management. Balance departmental needs against the business needs as well as all international business needs. Use expert knowledge of systems and best practices to work closely with engineering, IT, Advanced Manufacturing and business teams to identify improvements and implement configured workflows to support engineering data management solutions. Drive development and deployment of best practices and standards for global engineering systems, general data creation and management, engineering standards, configuration management, technical standards, procedures and technology Protection. Identify training needs and development plans to address those needs. Identify the best practice solutions for data alignment to the Variant Configurator and develop process efficiencies and ease of use capabilities to eliminate errors, minimize processing time and improve information accessibility and usability.

    Minimum Qualifications:
    • Associates degree in Engineering, Computer Science or Information Systems OR equivalent experience
    • 10 years of experience in a similar role
    • 5 years of experience leading teams, developing people and organizing tasks
    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science or Information Systems
    • Experience with global product releases throughout the entire product life cycle desired;
    Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Extensive administrative knowledge of PLM and CAD systems. Extensive administrative knowledge of ERP systems. Demonstrated knowledge of engineering processes and terms related to data management; Demonstrated ability to deliver results while working on multiple global projects simultaneously, balancing resources, timing and quality of outcomes; Strong organizational, written, oral and professional skills. Extensive experience in multiple programming languages such as Java, XML,VBA, WinSCP, SQL Developer Demonstrated master level creative ability and exemplary business decision making skills. Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects independently in a team environment. Must be willing to travel to global sites to understand their challenges, provide appropriate solutions and train the users. Experience in technical support, help desk or desktop support in a Windows environment; Expert level experience with delivering technical training and presentations on a global basis; Advanced ability to influence others without direct authority and work effectively with all levels of the organization; Advanced ability to successfully lead cross-functional teams on a global level;

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS : While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear; and use hands to manipulate objects or controls. The employee is regularly required to stand and walk. On occasion the incumbent may be required to stoop, bend or reach above the shoulders. The employee must occasionally lift up to 25 pounds. Specific conditions of this job include are typical of frequent and continuous computer-based work requiring periods of sitting, close vision and ability to adjust focus. Moderate travel up to 20% travel and valid Driver’s License required.
