    DEPARTMENT INFORMATION

    The Business Intelligence Specialist is part of Fire Administration. The work section’s objective is to optimize the utilization of technology systems throughout the Fire Department by creating value in their use, maintaining end user confidence, and by increasing system security and resiliency. The Business Intelligence Specialist assists in meeting these objectives by performing advanced analytical tasks, such as analytics relating to response, performance and utilization.  Also, by gathering complex business data, using statistical methods to analyze data, identifying trends, and patterns in datasets and making recommendations, and creating models and presentations of findings. 

    JOB SUMMARY

    This position is located in Fire Administration Division of the Fire Department within the City of Oklahoma City and is responsible for gathering complex business data, using statistical methods to analyze data, identifying trends and patterns in datasets and making recommendations, and creating models and presentations of findings. Work is performed on an independent basis, requiring a previous knowledge of development and/or support for commercial and custom applications serving a broad range of business needs.  Essential job functions include: Leadership and oversight of various programs dealing with the management and analysis of data; identifying and developing new ways to introduce data into the current system, as well as develop and maintain new systems for monitoring efficiency of work and evaluations. Specific tasks include but are not limited to pulling existing data from multiple databases, analyzing data, and creating annual reports and projected outcomes; Assembling gathered data to present to executive staff for annual reports and evaluations; Working closely with Information Technology to communicate design, alignment, and implementation of technical standards to address appropriate business solutions.

    VETERANS PREFERENCE

    • Knowledge and skill in analysis and data management understanding how data relates and is relevant to current business functions and future interfaces.
    • Knowledge and skill with software related to programming and data gathering, mining, analysis and presentation using charts, graphs, or tables. 
    • Skill in accurately performing mathematical computations.   
    • Skill in data governance ensuring data quality exists throughout the entirety of the data life cycle, monitoring the availability, usability, and consistency of data integrity.
    • Skill in research coordination planning activities, such as, identifying problem areas, proposing alternative solutions to those problem areas, developing plan implementation and statistical analysis, and accurate research findings.
    • Skill in research analysis inquiring, examining, and revising current facts, to prepare reports.
    • Skill in organizing, recording, and working accurately with large quantities of information and data. 
    • Skill in technical thinking and writing.
    • Strong oral and written communication skills. 
    • Ability to recall and retain information. 
    • Ability to work with minimum supervision.
    • Ability to travel.

    WORKING CONDITIONS

    • Primarily indoors, subject to sitting, standing, walking, using a telephone, keyboard, visual display terminal, etc., for extended periods of time.
    • Primarily inside in a climate-controlled environment.
    • Subject to frequent low-level noise from data processing equipment.
    • Occasionally required to work beyond normal working hours or to change working hours when conducting training or systems analysis.
    • Occasional local and out-of-town travel.

    Note:  Typical City employee working hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. However, working hours vary (may require work to begin before 8:00 a.m. and/or end beyond 5:00 p.m., and/or may require work on weekends and holidays), and are subject to change, based on the duties and location of the position and the business needs of the assigned work unit/department.  

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    • Arm/hand steadiness enough to demonstrate and operate computing equipment such as calculators, keyboards, and other computer operating devices.
    • Manual and finger dexterity enough to operate equipment such as personal computers, audio visual, and other training aids.
    • Near vision enough to read, write, develop training materials, and systems documentation, etc. 
    • Speech and hearing enough to communicate clearly and distinctly by telephone and in person.

    Pay Method:  City employees are required to receive pay electronically, either via direct deposit or pay card.

    If the position accepted is cyber security sensitive, internal and external applicants will be subject to a Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Interstate Identification Index (III) Fingerprint Background check.  Additionally, employees in this job classification must complete Level 4 Security Awareness Training and pass an online certification test.
