  • Wellesley College is an early adopter of business intelligence and data analytics and is a leader in developing a system for student data called WANDA (Wellesley ANalytics Decision support Applications) which has provided the College community ready access to reliable and accurate data. We are looking to hire an individual who is passionate about the strategic use of data and will be an active promoter of the use of the data across the College. This position will play an active role in understanding and supporting the technical aspects of WANDA as well as supporting the faculty and administrative staff who use the system.

    This position works with the Senior Engineer who leads the Business Intelligence efforts at the College to understand institutional data and analytical reporting needs in order to design and develop data visualizations and dashboards and respond to ad-hoc data requests from the faculty and staff. This position will develop a strong relationship with the Office of Institutional Research and collaborate with them and other campus partners in the use of WANDA as well as plan and execute continuous improvement.

    This position will assist the Senior Engineer in maintaining, supporting, and enhancing the data warehouse architecture, data pipelines, data integrations, data model and as well identifying and troubleshooting data quality issues. The ideal candidate is someone who enjoys working with end users on the front-end of data analytic tools and is excited to further develop their technical ability.

    Primary Position Responsibilities:

    • Develop and support the data environment that enables Wellesley's institutional analytics and reporting.
    • Design, implement, and support business intelligence dashboards and data visualizations including providing support for ad-hoc data requests in collaboration with the various stakeholders such as Office of Institutional Research, HR or Finance.
    • Work in partnership with the Office of Institutional Research and other campus offices for supporting data driven solutions.
    • Assist in support and training of end users on the use of dashboards and analytical tools; provide user assistance and direction for self-service reporting options such as ad-hoc data reporting.
    • Participate in the administration of the Workday Prism and Discovery Boards analytics environment.
    • Assist with providing technical support of the student data warehouse system, including building and maintaining data pipelines, data integrations, and data structures and providing production and data validation support for the BI system.

    Performance Profile:

    • Facilitate data literacy among university stakeholders.
    • Develop expertise in the student data content area.
    • Use a variety of tools and platforms, including Workday Prism, Workday Discovery Boards, Workday Advanced reporting, SQL Server, SSMS, SQL, T-SQL.

    Education Required:

    • Bachelor's degree in information services-related field preferred.

    Experience Required:

    • 2 years in SQL.
    • 2 years developing dashboards and data visualizations and reports using business intelligence software.
    • Experience with data warehouse modeling and creating data structures and ETL data flows.

    The following experience would be a plus:

    • Understanding of higher education administrative student data.
    • Experience with a relational database such as SQL Server, and extracting/processing data in a relational database using SQL and stored procedures.
    • Experience extracting data from Workday. Familiar with Workday object model and creating Workday reports.

    Skills and Abilities Required:

    • Ability to work well both independently and as part of a team.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Strong communication skills.
    • Must have the the ability to communicate in both technical and non-technical environments, including the ability to interpret technical jargon and concepts
    • Ability to present information to non-technical audiences.
