Business Intelligence Manager manages a business intelligence team centered on providing insight and aiding in business decision-making. Plans projects to produce reports and perform meaningful quantitative or qualitative analyses addressing impactful business issues or questions.     The primary function of the Business Intelligence Manager is to provide architectural guidance, technological recommendations and transition strategies that support the development and implementation of data warehousing and analytical reporting initiatives while also providing hands-on consultation and modeling experience to projects as needed. Focus is on the development of an end to end information architecture and strategy, playing a lead role on projects by providing the appropriate data architecture solutions and ensuring alignment with the overall data management strategies.  The Business Intelligence Manager owns data quality of the data applications in partnership with the business who generates the data.
     
    In addition, the Business Intelligence Manager will be responsible for end-to-end ownership of their applications. As such, the Business Intelligence Manager is responsible for contributing to various project initiatives, execution of production support and maintenance activities, managing vendor relationships, ensuring systems meet or exceed SLAs, and collaborating with IT and Business partners across the organization as necessary.  
     
    In conjunction with their leadership responsibilities the Business Intelligence Manager will also be responsible for coaching and mentoring of other team members. This can include a variety of topics from functional execution such as design best practices to soft skills such as communications and facilitation. Furthermore, the Business Intelligence Manager will also assist with establishing and executing the strategic direction of the department and organization as it pertains to system initiatives.
     
    Results by Duties Essential
    1. Provide architectural guidance, technological recommendations and transition strategies that support the development and implementation of data warehousing and analytical reporting initiatives.

     
    1. Responsible for executing against project and small enhancement initiatives as appropriate for their respective application portfolio. Depending on project needs, incumbent will perform development, scripting, modeling, or quality assurance tasks as needed.
     
    1. Responsible for application uptime, performance, and stability. In addition, the Business Intelligence Manager will also be responsible for adherence to application management processes such as incident, problem, change, etc.
     
    1. Innovate within the organization by proactively driving continuous improvement efforts and collaborating with IT leadership to improve IT capabilities across the organization.
     
    1. Manage team personnel such as ETL Developers, BI Developers, DBA’s, QA’s, and BA’s.  Manages team priorities, task assignments, vendor relationships, and schedules.  Responsible for ensuring vendors provide the proper level of service to the organization as defined by the SLAs.

    • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience.
    • 7 years experience in ETL development, data warehousing, or analytical reporting
    • 3 years of experience in enterprise or information architecture is preferred.
    • 3 years experience managing and leading others
    • Project Management
    • Commercial property and casualty insurance experience desired.
    Has a broad conceptual understanding of capabilities and direction of technology, coupled with an in-depth knowledge of the technology required and the needs of business environment necessary to support assigned projects. Maintains partnerships across the organization, and is able to influence senior management, peers and staff through an inclusive style and recognition of their abilities to achieve results. Has a thorough understanding of staff roles and abilities and provides input regarding their development needs. Possess strong managerial skills, as well as excellent written and verbal communication skills.  Proficiency with planning and executing large complex projects.
    Candidate should have skills in the following:
    • Microstrategy or other business intelligence platforms
    • Snaplogic or other Cloud based IaaS services
    • Snowflake or other Cloud data warehousing technologies
    • Amazon Web Services such as EC2, S3, RDS, and Redshift
    • ETL Development
    • Data wrangling
    • Oracle or SQL Database administration
    • Creating and maintaining end to end data architectures
    • Logical, access, and physical, data modeling
    • Normalized and dimensional data modeling techniques
    • Data analysis and mapping
    • Creation and usage of metadata
    • Vendor management
