    Under VP of Arctic OPS. and Development, Sr. Project Manager will be responsible for overall Direction and field coordination, implementation, execution, control, and completion of specific projects and ensuring consistency with the company strategy, commitments, and goals.

    Responsibilities

    Essential Functions

    • Oversee the execution of heavy civil construction projects from concept to completion.
    • Review, interpret, and assist with accurately estimating scopes of work as described in project documents and construction administration of facility of infrastructure projects.
    • Assist in analyzing and identifying constructability issues and their solutions when reviewing plans and specifications.
    • Identify labor, materials, equipment, and time requirements required to perform various scopes of heavy civil work and track project deliveries using appropriate tools.
    • Read and accurately interpret project plans, quality assurance and specifications for the proper execution of work as defined in project documents.
    • Coordinate, oversee, direct, and manage field construction staff, and to ensure safe, timely execution of activities.
    • Supervise one or more superintendents, foreman, or field construction crews.
    • Ensure construction activities are following/in compliance with plans, specifications, and agency requirements.
    • Assist with developing contracts and negotiate revisions, changes, and additions to contractual agreements with owners, consultants, clients, suppliers, and sub-contractors.
    • Assist with preparing budget estimates, progress reports, or cost tracking reports.
    • Manage multiple project resource allocations to ensure projects are resourced correctly with the company’s best interest.
    • Assist in managing, developing, implementing project schedules and 2-week look ahead.
    • Ensure accountability for project safety and implement systems as needed to correct issues.
    • Assist and develop project review reports, lessons learned, and assessment of results.
    • Managing logistical support services for research projects primarily working in Utqiagvik, AK or other rural Alaska Indigenous Communities.
    • Drafting statements of work and submitting requests for proposals for large procurements.
    • Mentor other staff as needed.
    • Project evaluations and assessment of results
    • Inspect and review projects to monitor compliance with building and safety codes, or other regulations

    Qualifications

    Knowledge and Critical Skills/Expertise:

    • Excellent planning, organizing, and leadership skills.
    • Knowledge of leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.
    • Execute the project according to the project plans and specifications.
    • Excellent planning and verbal communication skills.
    • Skills in Time Management, Quality Control and Cost Control.
    • Computer literacy with basic understanding of Excel, Word, Power Point, MS Projects or similar scheduling programs with the ability to learn new programs.
    • Must be able to read and interpret engineering, architectural, other constructions drawings, and specifications.
    • Implementation of corporate safety program and applicable safety regulations.
    • Interpretation of federal, state, borough, and municipality specifications.
    • Implement and complete quality and inspections procedures.
    • Excellent mathematical skills are required with the ability to perform quantity and material takeoffs from construction documents.
    • Ability to complete project financial projections and interpret project costs is essential.
    • Ability to be flexible and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
    • Demonstrate ethical conduct, professional presentation, and cultural awareness.
    • Planning, directing and monitoring program budget and serving as primary customer contact for program information.
    • Attend UIC required briefings and/or meetings and provide reports, briefings or tours on a as needed basis.

    Required Experience: 

    • 8 years of progressive experience in managing heavy civil construction.
    • 5-10 years of experience as field manager in foreman or superintendent role on heavy civil projects in Alaska.
    • 10 years experience of Arctic project and remote logistics management
    • Daily Field Reporting
    • Experience overseeing multiple, diverse projects.
    • Experience working in a multi-cultural environment.
    • Extensive knowledge of OSHA construction regulations.
    • Research grant proposals
    • Experience with federal government/military projects.
    • Alaska native/native American preference applies.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS

    • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to read text on a computer screen and in hard copy, stand or sit, talk, and hear.
    • The employee is frequently required to enter information into computers or tablets via a keyboard or other peripheral device.
    • Continuously required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, twist, bend, or reach with hands and arms.
    • Frequently required to push, pull and/or carry objects up to 10 pounds.
    • Occasionally required to stand or walk.

    ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

    • The work environment is that of a typical office setting and/or field office setting.
    • Frequently visiting or located at a construction site.
    • Non-smoking office
    • May be exposed to heat or cold

     

    Authorized Driver Requirement:  Employee must have a valid driver’s license. Employee must follow all Authorized Driver Policy and Procedures regarding approved vehicle usage.

     

    All employees must pass Non-DOT pre-employment drug screening and follow all UIC Non-DOT Drug and Alcohol Testing Program guidelines and requirements.
