Provides leadership and direction for tuition and fee structure, financial aid resources, billing and receivables, petty cash, and payments. Being a Bursar is the custodian of institutional funds. Ensures compliance with university, state, and federal regulations and standard accounting procedures. Additionally, Bursar requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a top executive officer. The Bursar typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments. To be a Bursar typically requires 3+ years of managerial experience. The UAA Office of the Bursar is seeking a Student Assistant to join our team. This is a great opportunity to obtain professional customer service and general office experience while attending classes. This position is available immediately and may continue through the AY23-24 academic year. Apply today

    KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

    • Customer service skills with the ability to successfully assist customers in person, over the phone, and via email. Professional telephone etiquette, verbal and written communication skills with good grammar and spelling.
    • Computer skills including Microsoft Office Word & Excel, email and other web applications, database preferred.
    • Ability to multitask and complete projects by their given deadline.
    • Ability to follow instructions, work independently, and as a member of a team.
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality.

    TYPICAL EXPERIENCE:

    • General office experience
    • Customer service experience preferred
    • Cash handling experience preferred

    REQUIRED EDUCATION OR TRAINING:

    None


    This is an in-person position located on the Anchorage campus. Remote work is unavailable for this position.

    Applicant must be enrolled as a UA student taking a minimum of 6 credits per semester with a minimum GPA of 2.0 or a newly enrolled student. This student staff position is 20 hours/week during the academic year with opportunities for up to 40 hours/week during the summer and starts at $11.34/hour. Candidates must be available to work between the hours of Monday-Friday 8:30am-5:00pm.
