Job Overview:
We are seeking a Temporary Grounds person to assist with maintaining the grounds of our facility. This position will involve various tasks related to landscaping and groundskeeping.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Participates in the work of personnel engaged in a program of planting, watering and caring of flowers, trees, shrubs and the maintenance of cemetery turf areas.
2. Participates in the work of personnel engaged in grounds equipment maintenance and operations including the cleaning of streets, walks and other facilities throughout the cemetery.
3. When necessary directs traffic and assists funeral directors in preparing for a funeral service.
4. Operates a variety of equipment including backhoe, mowers and small power tools.
5. Participates in the process of location, laying out, digging, grave liner installation, setting up of equipment for funerals and closing of graves.
6. Does carpentry, electrical and cement work.
7. Have a full and comprehensive knowledge of the cemetery laws as outlined in the Health and Safety Code.
8. Report to the Grounds Manager in a prompt and expeditious manner any violation of the laws as set by the Code and/or the Cemetery policies by the employees or others.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS:
Knowledge of:
A. Modern principles and techniques, including landscaping for the improvement and maintenance of cemetery grounds.
B. The use, operation, servicing and maintenance of a variety of grounds maintenance equipment.
C. The care, nurturing, pruning, spraying for plant disease and pests and irrigating of trees, plants, shrubs, flowers and turf.
D. The principles and techniques involved in the installation, operation and maintenance of automatic irrigation systems.
E. Materials, equipment and practices involved in cemetery interment and basic maintenance and terminology.
ABILITY TO:
1. Do heavy manual labor.
2. Follow oral and written directions.
3. Work cooperatively with others.
4. Read cemetery plot maps and other cemetery records.
REQUIREMENTS:
1. Valid California drivers license

EDUCATION:
High school diploma or GED equivalent.
