Building and Grounds Supervisor supervises and trains building and grounds maintenance staff. Additionally, Building and Grounds Supervisor, a level I supervisor is considered a working supervisor with little authority for personnel actions. Requires a high school diploma or its equivalent. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. Working team member that may validate or coordinate the work of others on a support team. Suggests improvements to process, is a knowledge resource for other team members. Has no authority for staff actions. Generally has a minimum of 2 years experience as an individual contributor.     JOB DESCRIPTION: The Grounds Supervisor is responsible for the management of all
    maintenance activities for Good Counsel’s grounds, gardens, athletic fields, parking lots, storm
    water management infrastructure, and stadiums. Responsibilities include planning, organizing,
    and directing the day-to-day work programs and grounds crew to ensure an aesthetically
    beautiful campus that is clean and accessible for daily operations. Responsibilities also include
    coordination of grounds maintenance work activity with other School departments.

    JOB TYPE: Full-time, salaried, exempt

    LOCATION: Our Lady of Good Counsel High School, 17301 Old Vic. Blvd., Olney, MD 202832


    SUPERVISOR/MANAGER: The Director of Physical Plant

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Plans, develops, prioritizes, and manages efficient and economical grounds maintenance
    tasks and horticultural programs in accordance with the seasonal calendar.
    • Guides, trains, and gives technical assistance to employees engaged in daily grounds
    maintenance tasks and special horticultural projects.
    • Inspects completed assignments to ensure that satisfactory work quality, operating
    procedures, and safety requirements are satisfactorily met and maintained.
    • Monitors and supervises work done by contractors to maintain quality assurance.
    Establishes and maintains direct personal contact with a wide spectrum of campus

    community members affected and/or concerned with the quality, safety, and
    appearance of the exterior campus.

    • Supervises snow removal, when necessary, from all roadways, walkways and passages
    on campus and assesses condition for opening and closing decisions.
    • Coordinates, plans, and develops grounds-related work activities and projects with other
    campus departments.
    • Establishes and maintains a system of records including seasonal schedules, capital
    projects, and special set-ups (i.e. school sponsored events, facility rentals, etc).

    REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
    Five (5) years’ experience in large scale horticulture, agriculture, nursery or landscaping

    organization or company.
    Extensive familiarity with all landscape equipment including but not limited to mowers,

    blowers, aerators, shovels, etc.
    Three (3) years’ experience in a supervisory role.
    Ability to obtain Pesticide Applicator License.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

    • The ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand. Must be
    able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
    • There is frequent outdoor work under adverse weather conditions.
    Ability to climb ladders and stairs.
    Ability to pick up and carry 75 pounds.
    Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time.

    SKILLS:

    • Grounds maintenance.
    Computer Literacy.
    Supervisory and administrative skills.
    Clear verbal and written communication skills.
    Ability to coordinate multiple tasks.


    REQUIRED WORK HOURS:

    • Primarily Daytime Hours
    Weekends as Needed
    Evenings as Needed

    PAY RANGE AND BENEFITS:
    The annual base salary range is $62k - $75k, commensurate with experience. Good Counsel
    offers a competitive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, disability
    insurance, a 403(b)-retirement savings plan, tuition remission (after three years), daily lunch,
    accrued vacation and sick time, and school holidays.
