Being a Building and Grounds Supervisor maintains and monitors the operation of all utility systems such as heating, ventilating and air conditioning. May be responsible for the housekeeping staff. Additionally, Building and Grounds Supervisor, a level I supervisor is considered a working supervisor with little authority for personnel actions. Requires a high school diploma or its equivalent. Description
The Building and Grounds Supervisor is responsible for leading the Groundskeeping Team in maintaining the grounds of Miravida Living’s facilities by performing all duties related to lawn, tree and plant care, snow removal, vehicle and equipment maintenance, garbage collection and disposal. Some basic maintenance tasks will be required inside buildings and on the campuses.

· Plans, organizes, directs and evaluates the groundskeeping team.
· Oversee grounds purchases and maintain vendor relationships.
· Defines, interprets and evaluates groundskeeping practices.
· Develops policies and procedures, distributes information to staff members of changes or additions in policies or procedures.
· Evaluate routines, activities and personnel.
· Oversees orientation of new employees.
· Supervises and directs activities of staff, reinforces training and ensure that staff are aware of any new procedures.
· Completes performance evaluations of staff.
· Attends supervisory and general staff meetings as scheduled.
· Responds to facility weather emergencies.
· Maintain a positive and cohesive working relationship with all departments.
· Supportive of Miravida Living Administration.
· Create the groundskeeping team’s schedule.
· Maintain and participate in weekend garbage collection rotation.
· Perform tree and shrub maintenance including planting, pruning, fertilizing, and watering.
· Rakes and bags leaves.
· Perform flower bed maintenance including soil preparation, planting, watering, and weeding.
· Remove snow and ice utilizing plow trucks, tractors, snow blowers, salt spreader and hand shovels.
· Perform lawn equipment maintenance including repairing and refinishing park benches and picnic tables
· Assist in the collection and disposal of garbage and recyclables. Keep all lawn and garden tools in good repair.
· When necessary, perform routine maintenance tasks as required.
· Perform lawn maintenance including mowing, trimming, and fertilizing, reseeding, and applying weed killer.

· Good mechanical ability.

· Certification in fertilizer and pesticide application preferred or willingness to obtain within I year.
· Ability to work efficiently with a minimum amount of supervision.
· Must possess a keen awareness of safety precautions.
· Must be able to lift up to 50 occasionally.
· Must have a valid driver’s license and free of moving violations within the past 2 years. Must maintain a good driving record while employed.
Supervisory Responsibility
The groundskeeper supervisor supervises the groundskeeping team. Supervise in both their work assignments and performance development (appraisal).

Required Education and/or Experience
· High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
Preferred Education and Experience
· Two or more years of experience in a supervisory position.
Language Skills
Ability to read, write, and comprehend short correspondences and memos. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to residents and employees of the facility.
Reasoning and Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
