The Rehabilitation Research and Training Center (RRTC) invites applications for a part-time Office Assistant and Peer Mentor. We are looking for a candidate who brings a passion for disability to join our team assisting our faculty and staff in center-related clerical activities and providing peer mentoring to youth and young adults with disabilities. The successful candidate will join a dynamic team focused on employment for people with disabilities.
Established in 1983, the Virginia Commonwealth University RRTC provides information for professionals, people with disabilities, and their families and/or caregivers. The center includes a team of nationally and internationally known researchers who are committed to increasing the hiring and retention of individuals with disabilities. The RRTC is an off-campus grant-funded center located a few blocks from Oliver Hall on the Monroe Park campus and close to the School of Education.
Reporting to the Administrative Assistant to the Director, the Office Assistant and peer mentor will join a team of researchers, educators, employment specialists, and knowledge translation personnel focused on transition and employment for youth and adults with disabilities.
Typical Duties Include:
Participate on teams and assist with project administrative activities and data entry.
Complete general office communication and dissemination duties using multiple written and computerized formats.
Monitor office supplies, equipment, and copy paper needs.
Assist with gathering information and creating an office newsletter and communication board.
Assist fiscal, HR, and administrative teams with projects and activities.
Complete general clerical and office tasks as assigned.
Transport files, office supplies, and mail deliveries all within the office.
Assist job-coaches with peer mentoring to youth and adults with disabilities.
Required Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED.
A minimum of one year of clerical experience (data entry, invoicing, filing, scanning, etc.)
Preferred Qualifications:
Have strong interpersonal and communication skills, ability to communicate in a clear, positive manner with diverse clients and staff.
Previous experience working with individuals with disabilities.
Knowledge and experience with peer mentoring.
Salary Range: $14.00 - $16.00
